recommend slick soap pls

Hi Guy's,

Can you recommend a good slick soap to use with my Feather Artist. This morning I used RazoRock S. Maria, a nice soap but IMHA it is not a slick soap good, to use with my DE. Also one that does not cost the earth.
My other soaps are TOBS/Omega/Truefitt & Hill.

Using more water and making your lather into a thinner consistency works better for straight razor shaving.

Since you are in the UK why not try a Palmolive shave stick. It makes slick lather (tallow based) and dosen't cost the world, was 50p at Tesco. Arko is another slick tallow based soap available in stick or tub that won't break the bank.

+1 - I picked up the Palmolive Stick on a work trip to Germany last year - great value & performance and for me a gateway to face-lathering.
And as noted - try adding a few drops of water (and/or glycerin) to the lather before you add to your SAD. And if you must - MWF?

I have to be honest , you have some very slick soaps already , most times its just getting the right consistency with what you have , I have some of the upper tier soaps that I love for various reasons and they are really slick but ive used the ones you have and have gotten a very useful lather, now as suggestion,, MITCHELLS WOOL FAT , inexpensive and very slick, just about any STILING SOAPS ,, or just break the bank and get MARTIN DE CANDRE goes along way but the initial cost scares some good luck tc

You will always do well with Martin de Candre. Also try the following: D.R. Harris range, Institute Karite, Provence Sante, La Toja and Valobra, among others.

For slick, my vote goes to Penhaligons hands down. There's a lot of good soaps listed here but for me the soap/cream that stands out as the most slick is Penhaligons.

Institute Karite, L'Occitane and Provence Sante are in the same general class: all quality soaps with a heavy dose of shae butter, which is great for the skin. They lather well and have good cushion and glide. Interestingly enough, I find the Institute Karite and L'Occitane creams mediocre.

Another good soap to keep in mind is Czech & Speak. It is really good stuff. Edwin Jagger and Muhle soaps, both in the same general class, are of quality. The German soap Klar Seifen is worth trying. Also, the barber version of the soap, Klar Kabinett, is an absolute delight with its delicious rose fragrance and luxurious lather. I am quite fond of this soap and have several bars of it. Many people are also fond of Tabac; it's a good soap, although the fragrance polarizes.

I am not much for artisan soaps, after trying a big lineup, so I can't comment on them.
