Allergic to tallow.?
I received some samples of a tallow based soap. I haven't ever tried that before. I have been getting some irritation and was wondering if that could be it. Anyone else have this problem?

I got 2 samples from Stirling. One is the barber shop and the other is sharp dressed man. The sharp dressed man gives me a burning sensation that lasts for hours even when I put witch hazel on. It's not real bad enough to make it's presents felt. I noticed the same feeling with banner shop this morning though may as bad. Sorry I can't give the ingredients as I'm at work.
I have used 3 different blades with about the results. I was going to ask Rod about it in an email later. I wasn't able to get a good lather from the sharp dressed man but the barber shop was great.

I just lathered some up and put it on the bottom side of my forearm. I left it sit for about 5 minutes, some lather dissipation, but no redness or anything. I got my shavette out and sliced through my arm hair couldn't even feel the blade. I don't think it's a reaction but some other issue with anything from poor technique to an issue with lathering. The lather I made tonight was one of the best I've ever made. I did notice when I got the lather near my face my eyes started to tear up a little. Could be a common scent or something. I am not putting much faith in that one because the scents are so different.
I did send Rod an email and asked him for some advice also. I may just use my Conk bay rum in the morning and see what that does.
Just thought of one more thing, in my best "Columbo" voice; I wonder if putting my contacts in before I shave has anything to do with it?

Thanked: 275You are not alone.
Just by chance, I was going through "TheSuperiorShave.com" (a razor-and-accessories website), and landed on the page for "soaps and creams". And found:
. . . Mitchell's Wool Fat is pretty much universally respected, too, but its lanolin - like upon Musgo Real, another esteemed item with heavy lanolin influence - causes me to tingle and burn so badly that I cannot give either a second chance...but were my friend calling from across the country in shaving shop with money to burn in his pocket, Tabac and Mitchell's Wool Fat and Musgo Real would earn a begrudging vote as must-try items; lots of folks take to lanolin just fine, after all. . . .

It sounds like you are working it out OK. Some folks do react to different essential oils. I hope it works out.
