Thanked: 1Red Proraso
Hi there,
I have ultra sensitive skin, and was using the green Proraso shaving cream for straight razor shaving. It was still leaving me with slightly irritated skin.
I ended up buying a razor for an unscrupulous website which I will no longer deal with (another story but against forum rules. Pm me if your interested).
The razor came with a tube of the red Proraso cream, which was great as I had researched it and that was my next purchase.
When I use the red cream, it lathers really well and doesn't irritate my skin, but no matter how I use it, it is really sticky.
The razor doesn't seem to glide very well with it, I have had quite a few little nicks from the fact the razor sticks and then bites in.
Anyone else use this stuff and have similar issues.
Any advice on a fix would be great.
Tried more water, less water, more cream, less etc.
FYI I lather on the face.
Cheers
Matt

I haven't used it my self but maybe try bowl lathering to control the water level for a shot or try adding pre oil to über It up a bit.
I use a bowl 90% of the time with all soaps & creams.
I am sure others that use it will have better advice soon
Also are you wetting your face first before applying the lather with each pass?
I find the lather dries quick and thickens up if I lather my face dry
Just a thoughtSaved,
to shave another day.

Thanked: 1Hi.
Ok will try the bowl option.
I always keep face moist while shaving. I also use flood pre shave lotion which I like.
I have tried with and without the lotion and no difference.
Seems to be only with the red and not the green.
Thanks.

Thanked: 498Might try a few drops of glycerin.
I use the Green, Red, White, & Blue I always thought the white gave me the most amount of glide, plus I like the scent of the white the most as well. But all of the Proraso line is top notch.

Thanked: 1Hi.
Yeah for sure. I really like their stuff.
I used to suffer so badly from irritation and even this stuff with a cartridge has been a revelation. I'd just like it to glide a bit better.
I just tried it with the bowl, and although the result of the lather was slightly different, more aerated. It still got quite sticky.
I try to get the lather at the wettest point before it starts to break down and change from that perfect white to an off white, lol , if you know what I mean.
Anyhow. I'll keep going with it as having no irritation is awesome.
Cheers

Thanked: 18Try not to use super hot water. Also maybe your prep oil stuff dries it out ? Maybe only lather half of your face at a time so the lather isn't degrading ? I guess what I am really saying is experiment until you get the results you are looking for. Little things can make a difference in the overall quality of your experience

Thanked: 1Hi.
Yeah I guess that is what I've been doing.
I just thought maybe someone else using it had found a full proof way of using it.
It's all good. I love the straight shaving so more than happy to keep tryin.
Cheers

I have used a tube of Red up over 6 months and never had a problem with the cream, is it possible for a tube to be out of date or old? I have no idea how long it keeps or lasts just the way you describe it as "sticky" is very unusual, especially since it has shea butter in that one I think. If the website is not reputable they might have old stock or some such thing.
I could be completely wrong, but I learned to straight shave on Proraso Red and tried all sorts of combinations learning to lather but I never had it feel 'sticky' - so I'm sorry your having a dodgy experience with it!
Some websites send free samples of you pay postage, perhaps one could send a small sample just to compare. I have bought from both mensbiz and shavershut (both Australian) they may be able to help, they often send free samples with orders.

I also face lather (with cold water, FYI) and find it "stickier" than the blue, but I just add water via the brush, sometimes right before I start a pass. I also put a drop or two of glycerin on the tip of my brush if I think of it, but I usually forget.

Aussie buddy try the fauldings or palmolive creams. They are basic creams that work well. Being basic they don't have the ingredients that tend to cause irritation and the are cheap to boot. While there pick up some glycerin. Even mix and match and knock up some uberlather. In case you didn't know there should be a meet at the end of the month. There is a thread in the downunder forum
