Thanked: 12Anything trump Tabac?
I have medium density, extra coarse facial hair. I have successfully mapped out my hair growth and accepted that more than 2 passes irritates my neck region. I have tried several soaps and can only achieve a "perfect" shave with Tabac so far. Tallow is where it's at!!! Can anyone recommend a tallow based soap that equals or exceeds the performance of Tabac? I am not all that concerned with the scent, just the slickness/cushion.

Thanked: 3795Some like it, some don't. It might depend on your water, or the phase of the moon, or your personal karmic balance, but you might want to try Mitchell's Wool Fat.

Straight,
Since we're speaking of soaps, try these: Martin de Candre, Czech & Speake, Valobra, D.R. Harris range, Mitchell's Wool Fat, Provence Sante, Klar Kabinett, Institute Karite . . . Well, that should give you a start.

I love Tabac and like said before, it's a love or hate thing. I can vouch for Martin De Candre (MDC). Top notch soap. Castle Forbes which is between a soap and cream also ranks high on my list. Mitchell's wool fat smells like a wet sheep to me but like Tabac it has its followers.

Thanked: 3225I am with you on tallow based soaps and Tabac in particular. There has been some very good suggestions made already but I would say to also try Arko. If you buy the stick, Arko is very pliable and will form into a bowl or mug easily. It is very cheap so virtually nothing to loose there and as you don't care about scent the lemony scent should not bother you. Lather it right and it has all the slickness and cushion you need.

Thanked: 12Anyone tried Antica barbiera colla? Pretty spendy, but not as bad as martin De candre. I have a hard time paying that much to "TRY" a soap.

Thanked: 3225Some of my biggest disappointments have been with pricey soaps. It is not that they weren't very good, they were. It's just that I thought that for the price the performance increase over less pricey soaps I use was too small. That is the reason I really like Arko and the Palmolive shave stick. They are tallow based and as good as more expensive mid range price soaps. Great bang for the buck. The RazorRock soaps that are tallow based, some aren't, are good too and not overly expensive.

Thanked: 116Try "Monsavon Bol à Raser" if you can find it... it's tallow based and dirt cheap.

Loves me some Tabac. Try Mike's, Barrister & Mann, Strop Shoppe, Stirling, all very good tallow soaps.

Thanked: 433If you don't mind the scent, Arko works great. Prairie Creations is also really good when you can get it.
