    Default Anything suggestions?

So I just recently started shaving with a SR and I am loving it but there is just one this giving me issues(besides getting the hang of shaving of course) and that would be dryness.
I've been using proraso's green shaving cream and it works really well but after my face is quite dry. Even a good amount of after shave I can still feel the dryness for a little while after. I'm not sure if this is just my skin being overly sensitive or if this is a more common thing.

Any suggestions on creams that aren't as drying?

    Thanks in advance!

Ty, it very well could be your aftershave. Alcohol will dry your skin out. Try a balm or aloe based face cream instead of an aftershave. Nivea Aftershave Balm, both regular and sensitive are a good choice. Many other balms on the market to try also.

I'll give Nivea a try, I've always had good results with that brand so I'm sure that it should work fine!

I mix vitamin e oil and ponds cold cream. It moisturizes and sooths.

    Tyron,

Here is my sequence after the shave, and it might help you:

Rinse the lather off with tepid water; apply alum bloc; rinse with cold water about a minute later; dry; apply Thayers Super Medicated Witch Hazel with Aloe Vera; apply a quality aftershave balm. Sometimes I use aftershave pour or cologne following the balm and sometimes not — I don't have a problem with my skin drying. In your case, however, an aftershave pour with alcohol might not be a good idea.

For aftershave balm, here are some suggestions: Castle Forbes, BAUM.BE, Institute Karite; Edwin Jagger; Woods of Windsor; D.R. Harris; and, yes, Nivea is good, too, and the least expensive.

Noxema or Proraso pre shave cream may help you too. I did have some issues before I started using the pre shave cream, and the other thing that has changes is making my lather with a little extra water, initially it was to keeps the lather from drying too fast but that and the pre shave cream happened at the same time. I am not sure which fixed things for me, could be both helped me.

I watched a barber on "You Tube" use just shaving soap to soften a clients whiskers. I tried the same thing and it almost killed me! It burned like razor burn but I did not shave. I think I left that soap on my face about nine minutes goofing off. Huge mistake for me! Any one of the products these guys mentioned will probably help, but I recommend that you rinse that soap off well, because cold winter air will just dry it out worse.

Me too on this. Whatever soap or cream I use, I play with it until I know the max amount of water I can build into it before it "breaks." A good wet lather, and an alcohol-free aftershave balm, or else I get uncomfortably dry skin.

I'm like Tyrone. I need to find a good pre-shave balm. It seems, no matter how wet I get the lather, I get razor burn. But I was used to shaving in the shower for thirty years so my beard and skin was at the peak moisture wise. (SR shaving in the shower does not seem wise )

there are several pre shaves to try. Noxema, Proraso, Castle Forbes, and some use hair conditioner. I have the Proraso and Castle Forbes. i will be trying the Noxema in less than a week, when my Proraso runs out. I think the key is to try one for a bit if it works great otherwise you have to try another. I like to try the cheaper ones first, in the hopes of saving money, which sounds ridiculous when I think about how much I spend on razors.
