Very very good!
Cut off a manageable amount and put the remainder in the freezer. This works for me.
Shaved with it yesterday. It is a great soap.
Can it be melted to fit into a bowl?
A search of Cella using the "Advanced Search" button, above right,, produced "19" threads on the subject,, in title alone.
O.K.,,,,,,,,,,,,
Don't get me wrong, your advice is good. But I just don't know how many versions Cella has, so I include the whole name of this particular product to make sure I was getting info on the right product. It may be that's all they have, but I just wouldn't know. Thanks!
There's only 2 versions. The kilo block & the red tub. If there is a difference between them it's not major.
I don't know if there is any real difference between the two. If you look at Cella Shave Soap 150g it merely says it comes in 2 formats, tub and kilo block. If you compare the ingredients of the 2 formats they appear identical. I have a had a tub of Cella and would not call it a cream more like a soft soap. You could not dispense that out of a tube. Some call it a croap, the consistency is in between a cream and hard triple milled soap.

Hey! I still want to know who has it for $27/KG in the US...
And I know the ingredients are the same but either the proportions or the process makes them slightly different (IMHO) with the red tub being a little softer.
My $0.02 - the 1KG block is mo better...YMMV.
Now about that source?

Sorry, it's in the UK: Welcome To Connaught Shaving
And I was estimating to include exchange rate- shipping I think is free with over 60 GBP purchase.
Even with shipping to the U.S. Is a great price.
Have never Froze it,keep it in a ziplock in a dark cool place,I have some that is 5 yrs old and in perfect condition.
I did what Pixel said & got mine in May of 2013,, I'm on my 3rd small block & have 6 blocks left. I cut them into small blocks that fit in my Pyrex dish,,, wrapped the blocks in wax paper, then put the blocks into zip lock baggies, then in the back of the fridge, I did not freeze mine. I would say cut them small, as they last a long time.
I use mine twice a week,, & a cut block can last 6 months,,,
It's superb soap
Cella is a typical Italian soft soap, like the old P160, TFS, Valobra etch. There is no cream version and soap version and I find no major difference between the two, if there is any at all. However, the differences in the two packs, small quantity in a plastic tub the first, and large quantity wrapped with plastic the other, may preserve the soap in a different way while waiting in a shop shelf for months or years.
This has been another helpful thread for me, thanks to all for the input.
When ever I Wax to the "Two Razor Bob" mode one of the things I think about is paring down my soap choices from "several baskets under the sink" to if not one, a shorter list.
And in the soap category having at least one at the lower end of the cost per shave would help assuage the SAD induced shock to the system when I pull out those baskets.
Someday I might try Arko again, but the last time I was looking like I had been bobbing for French Fries by the end of the save...
And yes, I have shaved with Williams...and no, I don't want to make that my low cost contender thank you very much...
Cella 1kg is, by all comments, in that "lower cost per shave" category - esp with Smyth's find & share.
I have the tub, but it did not get a fair shot as I'm pretty sure it has gone bad...it is a funky yellow color...
But I did have a fresh slice of the Block Cella that came in as the Lagniappe with a razor.
The results had been "Meh" until I realized that it really was me, I needed to read more and do the "use it every day for a week thing".
By using what I had learned in the other threads on the subject I was able to get an instant turn around...you can look like that guy on the box...(OK, not that foamy but more than enough wonderful lather from a face lather to get 3 passes and a bit to spare)
And when you get it to its peak performance the post shave effects seem to be much better, almost like a shave balm.
So thanks again my mein Klingenbruder for being such a great resource...

One other thing I learned by communicating with the Connaughts: on each item next to the price is a smaller number in parentheses. That number is the price we would pay - we don't have to pay the V.A.T.. So, really, a very nice price on several items, even considering shipping (which is free with a 60 gbp purchase).
I bought the red tub....transferred to a larger tub...used it and think its great.
I bought a kilo of cella...split it uo and sold off chunks...saved a chunk for myself.
The biggest difference from the tub and the kilo is the consistency. The tub is super soft. The kilo is a nicer firm soap.
Ordered a Kilo of Cella Yesterday, hope it gets here by Friday, In my shave mug is a mix of VDH, Williams, Col. Conk and a touch of Dove soap. After 50 years I think my shave mug will go into shock with a good soap.
Since this is the most current Cella Crema Sapone thread I thought I would start here.
I've been using this for the last few weeks, pretty much 5 out of 7 shaves a week.
Face Lather, 30-40 second load on a soaked but shaken boar brush.
Plenty of lather for a 2.5 pass shave with some to spare, and great results.
I've been struck but how slow it gets used up, given that it is not a "hard" soap.
Most of the comments when you ask "how long does a 1kg block last?" are in the order of years or a long long time.
Curious and shave-geeky I drug out a 2000g scale and started weighing container every day.
Attachment 187792
Reference - these containers weigh about 218g empty.
I was thinking this would get used up at 2g a shave or that 1Kg block would last 500 shaves.
What I am seeing in my short test is never more than 0.4g a shave.
I know I need to look at this over 10 or 20 or more shaves to get a real average but...
Any suggestions?
Is there really a Cella Fairy that puts the Sapone back in the cup?
My Cella Kilo came Friday, opened package and the aroma was mostly Almond with a hint of coconut, suddenly I had a yen for a Almond candy bar or Spumoni ,I had 3 shaves with it and have to ask. Is this stuff made in shavers heaven? Now I'm going to have to buy an expensive shave bowl or mug to put it in and toss out the Van der Hagen soap. I think you guys are influencing me too much, As a young man I started out with Dad giving me a new Gillette Tech a puck of Williams and was a happy camper.
Also new to fresh cut Cella Crema Sapone and I have to agree, it is wonderful.
Love that heaven sent aroma?
Make sure you keep what you are shaving with in an air tight container, and away from the heat.
And the rest of the block needs to be carefully sealed/wrapped.

Fresh Cella being divided in to 100g blocks and vacuum sealed...
The scraps are pressed in to the container with the red lid.
Now I need to go out and pick up an Almond Joy candy bar...

Bought Cella k @ West Coast Shaving $36.99 shipping was also for other items $15 but it was from California to Maine. Put remainder in Zip-lock drew out most air with straw a put in fridge, even tho not need to, except for cool dark place.
Update: I've always been a one at a time soap guy, puck in my mug gets low buy puck that's on drug store shelf (usually VDH od Williams) and add to my mug, But with this Cella K soap it's a whole new life style of shaving, used it with all my razors with a Crystal blade and I am one happy camper. This soap is far superior to the soaps I've used. I even had to go out and buy a $15 bowl for it, Been using this soap/cream? for well over a week and it seems that I have more soap than I started with, Is there some mysterious ingredient that makes this soap grow?
Using only 0.4cc of soap per shave means a kilo will last a long, long time.
It is a great soap.
Yes, it is magical, and it lasts a long time.
Make sure your bowl has a air-tight cover lest the goodness leave in the night.
No, there are no Cella Fairies that refill the bowl...but you can believe that if it helps you get to sleep at night..We try hard not to be judgmental.
Smooth Shaving..
I've gone wild, and changed to a 40 second from a 30 second load (I have this clock with a sweep second hand mounted on the wall behind me, and I can see it in the mirror as a load up)
So right now the trend is .6cc/shave...or 1666 shave per kilo...80 months at 5 shaves a week with Cella and something else the other days...
Or you can say shave every weekday for $0.10 a week in soap...
Smooth shaving..
Update - Use rate -
So I have 30 shaves on this control.
And I have been very very generous with the loading, always having lather to spare..
30 Shaves - 30.4grams or just over 1gram/shave.
That would put you in the 1000 shaves per Kilo or 2.75 years.
And with a little care (as I was using in the beginning) I'm thinking you can get to .7g or 1400+ shaves from a Kilo.
Of course you are going to "do the right thing" and PIF at least half of that Kilo to share the love of Cella...
Smooth shaving...
A gram/shave sounds like a lot.
Do you try to save the unused suds?
