Wish I were in the UK. I'd lay in a supply of that horribly over priced shave stick just in case.

Yea, we know. That is why I am having some friends post me 12 sticks from the UK. You should do yourself a favour and at least try it. I think it shoots the old saying "you get what you pay for" all to heck. Produces a great slick no nonsense lather if you know how to use a shave stick. Not hard to learn how either.

Luckily, I have another flight to Germany coming up this week and may use the opportunity to stock up.
FWIW, the Colgate Palmolive letter quoted referred to the UK market, which does not have to mean that it is a worldwide decision.
Judging by how often you find Palmolive cream in supermarket shelves, at least in some parts of the world Palmolive shaving cream continues to be very popular.
Nivea may give an example: Nivea cream is only available in selected markets, while Nivea foams and gels are pretty much available worldwide.
I have sent a request for clarification to Palmolive-Colgate Germany and should receive a reply within 3 working days according to their website.

Update:
Colgate-Palmolive Germany were quick to respond and confirmed the they have currently no plans to terminate production of Palmolive Classic shaving cream or soap (stick).
Although I was never able to ascertain where Northern European Palmolive shaving creams (Southern European Palmolive shaving creams come in slightly different packaging and varieties) are made, it does state on Palmolive shaving stick packaging that they are produced in Germany.
The Colgate-Palmolive reply suggests that Palmolive shaving cream and stick may only have been discontinued in certain markets and continue to be available in Germany.

Thank you for that bit of good news.

Thanks, Beluga.
That was a pretty quick response from Colgate-Palmolive.
I know I was able to buy Palmolive shave cream in retail chain stores many years ago but it has not been sold here that way in quite a few years. My guess is that it was officially discontinued here. The only places I can get it here are from specialty shaving stores on the net. That would suggest to me that it is imported by individual retailers rather than gotten from Colgate-Palmolive Canada which lists neither the shave stick or shave cream in their product line.
I hope that the remaining markets it is sold in are large enough to sustain it's continued production somewhere. Makes me kind of wonder.
