    Default Third times the charm

When I got back into wet shaving, and picked up a couple DE razors, I knew I needed shaving soap. Having used the soap pucks in the past, far distant past, I felt that was the way to go. The Ogalala Bay Rum sounded interesting, so I gave it a try. I liked it, as it worked well, but seemed to dry out quickly once on my face, forcing me to continually re-wet and re-lather. Next, was a cake of Col. Conk Almond. Light scent, but seemed a bit difficult to get the lather I wanted. Adding more water just seemed to make a sloppy mess, though that's probably on me. Finally, I took the plunge and bought a tub of Proraso red. I'm sure there are better, more expensive shaving creams out there, but they'll have to wait a while. I used the Razorock DE, as the straight razors are in need of a proper sharpening. The shave was amazing with only one pass. I can only imagine what a sweet shave I'll get when the Othello has a proper edge on it.

Each soap has its own characteristics., basically.
You'll have to learn them for the ones you buy.

Right now I use two. One will dry out faster if I removed to much water from the brush before building lather.
It's a dog eat dog world and I have on milk bone underwear.

Thanks to all for the replies. As You see, sometimes it's all about learning first hand. Sooner or later I'll try some of the others in search of that perfect one for me, but for now, I'm very pleased. greatbolo, I agree, I really like the Othello. Glad to hear I didn't buy a white elephant. If all goes as planned, it will be off to be honed in the next week.
