Default A true test of a soap.

I have tried quite a few soaps since I started down this wonderful road to shaving enlightenment. Most good, some laughable, a few magnificent. My "favorite" has changed regularly but comparing one soap to another is often complicated by the razor and brush that is being used in my rotation. So I decided to give each soap it's fair day in court. I have recently taken up the tedious task of shaving with one soap for a full week to get an honest comparison. Thru this comparison I am focusing on PERFORMANCE only. Since I own several different flavors I have narrowed the test down to my four favorites. Mike's barbershop, Cella, MWF and TABAC. I am not trying to start a "whats your favorite" thread here, just sharing my experiences. To be fair I have frozen my rotation and used only my Semogue 2000 boar brush and Henckells Friodur 72-1/2 razor for one month.

All have and will continue to give me great shaves but one has clearly risen to the top of my preference. Good ol TABAC!! It is hands down the best performer in my current rotation for my personal needs. Slick as hell, tons of cushion and a clean soapy scent. I love this stuff. I have come to the conclusion that If I had to pick only one soap to shave with for the rest of my life it would be the clear choice.

    So what's the point?

I am suggesting to all that have not done this to try it with your favorites. It is a wonderful learning experience.

Tabac is one of my all time favorites, I do not find it to have a clean soapy scent.

I do like the Tabac also, your top picks are also in my rotation. I recently ordered a bunch of old school soaps that I have had and liked in the past. I have also started ordering in stick sizes so I have smaller cakes that rotate faster. I often shave with one or two soaps for my three weeks away for work. It is less to pack and really gets me a feel for the soap.

Yes, sounds like a good way to test a soap. I am too lazy to try it though. What I have noticed in rotating through 50 odd soaps and creams is that a certain few always seem to give me a great lather and shave no matter the razor or brush I use. I could pitch out all but Arko/Palmolive shave sticks, Tabac and Boellis Panama 1924 plus a couple of creams but that wouldn't be near as much fun.

I just finished a 10 day trip and used Tabac stick.
    Fantastic performer with every water.
If you are wanting to try a stick and face lathering Tabac would be a great one to try.

And I love that "70's" scent...

"70's scent". That is a great description of the way tabac smells. To me it smells clean and old fashioned. Many would probably disagree. Funny how different people process scent differently.
