How to
Just got my shipment from SRD today and in it is my three sample soaps. The question is how to use. do you just drop one in a mug and swish it around . I tought about putting in a small mucg and then in the microwave and melt it then let it cool. I've done that with Williams so that when making lather the puck didn't run around in the mug. just a thought. i'm sure there's more than one way to mess up soap.

Thanked: 1You could try grating the samples with a cheese grater or a vegetable peeler and then press the shavings into a mug. I've done this with samples and it's worked for me so far. I think depending on the soap it's possible to burn it when melting, so I decided to keep everything room temp to minimize "user error"

Thanked: 20Grating or shaving the sample, and then pressing the shavings into the bottom of your mug is the best solution. I ruined a sample once by trying to soften it in the microwave.

Thanked: 7Definitely do not microwave the samples. With a few exclusions, in general soaps will lose their properties when microwaved. Best advise has been given already. If the soap is hard, grate and press into the mug. If it is soft soap, then just press into the mug.

I use this method on sample from Mama Bears,,,,
"When I use their samples or any others that come in "Little Wedges or Chunks", I slice off thin pieces, like the ones you saw Paulie do in prison with his garlic, Goodfellas,,, these go into my bowl where there is hot water waiting, this softens & helps desolve them into lather as you work them in the bowl.
Watch the amount of water you use & don't be afraid to use a lot of the sample,,, it's just a sample,,,,"

It depends on the soap what you do. Unless it's a glycerin based soap you never microwave it. My last order I got some samples of the German stuff and I just put a dollop in the mug and brushed it out and it worked fine like that.

I use a double boiler method. I place the soap in my mug/dish and place that in a large kettle and pour water around the mug until it's about half way up and then heat the water up until the soap just starts to get shiny. Then using an oven mit I take it out and put it in the freezer for a few minutes. That's it. All in all it takes about 4 minutes.
