Thread: Van Der Hagen Soaps

I was at my local Walgreens lately and noticed they had a Van Der Hagen Deluxe Shave Soap on sale for $1.00. I never heard of this stuff, but i decided to by two cakes. I am very impressed with this stuff! It has a mild scent and lathers very well. Also, because of the way it's packaged, you don't even have to put it in a mug. If anyone else finds this in a store I would recommend checking it out.

Yep, I've used the stuff before and it's an incredible value for the price. The lanolin really helps soften my whiskers and it's pretty gentle on my face.

I use it and like the way it lathers. 100x better than Williams

VDH also makes or did make Surrey Soaps, and as I understand, also product Col. Conk soap.

Good stuff. You got an excellent deal on it -- full price at my Walgreen's was $2.46. And it's worth that much.

I had to decide between regular and the glycerin the other day. I tried the regular and I was impressed as well. I found myself on the road with all of my stuff but I forgot to bring one of my 300 year supply of shaving soaps so I had to stop at a Wahlgreens just like you.
Kind of upsets me with all the soaps I have at home, I have 5 that aren't even open yet!
Oh well, there are worse things that can happen.

I paid $1.99 for VDH. I figure the next time I have to use Williams (I have like 4 cakes of it..bought I on sale for 50 cents) I am going to try add either vanilla or mint to it, maybe pumpkin pie spice for thanksgiving

I just stumbled upon some of these recently myself.

I've bought a cake of the regular which has a mild almond scent and one of the amber/glycerine. I haven't tried the amber yet but the almond preforms quite well. I noticed that someone did make reference that the same company makes the Col. Conk soaps. The scents don't seem as robust but since Conk is so hard for me to find around here the Van Der Hagen would certainly work. (I hate to but online if I can help it).

I think VDH is about the best soap that you can go into a drugstore and buy. I think all the varieties, though, are glycerin soaps-- not in the triple milled class. They are much softer than the hard soaps, and don't last as long. Still a great shave, and quite the bargain.

I wasn't too impressed.. Williams seemed to work better for me, but to each his own.
