Thanked: 5Vintage Old Spice Tallow Shaveing Soap Coming Soon!!!
Just picked up some vintage Old Spice tallow based shave soap on the Bay and can't wait for it to arrive and try it. Anxious to compare it to my current tallow based shave soaps I currently have...More to come.

Thanked: 5Returned home from TDY orders yesterday and after 24 hours of nursing an elderly warriors boo boos I was lucky enough to not only try original Old Spice tallow shaving soap but also to use my new NOS Ern Gong 6/8 round nose straight razor. 7 passes on chromium oxide from SRD then stropped up and holy snikes! BBS shave right out of the wrapper...not a bit of sting from alum block or Floid blue aftershave.
Back to the soap. Face Lathered quite effortlessly from the bowl with my Omega 1066 boar bristle brush. Nice scent that was pungently but not overwhelming and quite different from today's Old Spice scent...more refined. Don't know if it's the age of the soap or its components being different. Very slick lather that did not dry out before the end of each pass and plenty left in the brush after 3 passes.
Could not have been happier with both razor and soap. Just bought another puck in a vintage NOS mug today after that shave!
Finished off with the new Floid Blue EDT also top notch and scent exactly matches the aftershave by the same name.
Regards,
Docmo

Thanked: 5Finished shaves #2 & 3 now with my vintage Old Spice shaving soap. The lather has actually improved as I have dialed in the required water content and it is performing as well or better than an of my newer tallow based soaps like Tabac and Mikes. The scent is a little weak but it is 25 plus years old so that's only to be expected.
Other than that easy and copious amounts of stable and very slick later and not drying at all. Why in the world with the popularity of wet shaving today are they not still making or reintroducing this product. They are definitely leaving money on the table cause I know I would be buying it!

Thanked: 3225I'd guess that even with the recent increase in wet shaving using a brush and puck of soap that it still is a very small market today. There is also what appears to be intense competition to fill that small niche market by artisan soap makers. There really is a huge choice of soaps for a small market. My guess is that it is a corporate decision not to get back into a small crowded market as there is no money in it for them. Like you say, it is a pity because the vintage Old Spice is pretty good stuff.

Thanked: 22This is very interesting as I just picked up a NOS c. 1950 Old Spice gift set that includes a mug and soap. Will test drive the soap this weekend! Have been using the cologne and AS this week and have gotten some nice comments from my wife and the ladies at the office. Not bad for a 65 year old frag!!

I recently bid in a Old Spice set. AS, Talc and soap and mug. As good a soap as most. Tabac still beats it IMHO. But it is a nice nostalgic touch to have around. Will probably start a tradition like "Throwback Thursday" or Way Back Wednesday". Vintage Razor, Soap and AS.

Thanked: 5I think you nailed it. It's too bad indeed. I, too, think it's too bad. One advantage the big corporations have is access to stores. If the price is good, and they market it well, I think they can make some good money. Nivea seems to be doing it. In Canada, Nivea shaving cream is available both at Walmart and at Shoppers Drug Mart. They are affordable and available. I tried the Nivea cream once, and it's quite a good cream.
