I have not used the 'cheap' stuff in awhile. I finally got over the price tags of some stuff. I am currently using Sampsons (not Simpsons) and for ~$20 I could not ask for more.

I've been using Speick shaving cream for the last several weeks in much the same way, but just by itself. Like the old Brylcream ads say, "A little dab will do you". Very slick lather. I figure a 2.5 oz tube might last a year at the rate I'm using it.
