They're pretty nasty.

The Real Shaving Company Cream is one of those few gems that are both cheap and good. Which shouldn't come as a surprise, as they're made by Creighton's, who manufacture most of the more well-known English brands (Truefitt & Hill, Taylor's of Old Bond Street, etc.). Scent and packaging are sacrificed for the price, but it is quality cream that performs as well creams 5-10 times the price.

And to get a rich, creamy lather it really doesn't need added glycerin. If I were you, I'd drop the Van Der Hagen and the glycerin out of the equation (I've never tried VDH, but I don't see how it could significantly improve The Real Shaving Co. cream). But then again, I'm not you. So happy shaving whatever way suits you!

G2No, a small question for you. What are you paying for The Real Shaving Company soap at Rite Aid? I just looked them up on Amazon and they are running between $20. and $22. a tube. In my frugal life that ain't cheap.

You're right Razorfeld. A tube for $22 isn't cheap. The last tube (5 oz) I got at Rite Aid was 4 or 5 bucks. I only use a small amount; so, it lasts a long time. I went to Rite Aid's web site to see what they're currently charging. Guess what ... I can't even find it on line. I need to run to my Rite Aid to see if they still have it in stock. I'm thinking that not too many guys were buying it, which resulted in it loosing its shelf space (only too make more room for some canned goo). Oh well. I think I'm going to take MisterMoo's advice and try some Arko. I have a $25 Amazon gift certificate waiting to be used.

I was just going to check Rite Aid's website when I read your response. Will have to check local Rite Aid just in case they have any. I've tried Arko stick and liked it. I use it on occasion since I like to change things up everyday or so. I found it works best if you coarse grate it and tamp it into a small bowl. Several drops of water on top to soak before you load a brush and you get good lather.

I just checked, The Real Shaving Co. products are indeed expensive in the United States. I'm pretty sure over in the United Kingdom it is available for peanuts. Creighton used to sell it through their webshop for around £2.50 for a 150ml tube if I remember correctly, but sadly it has disappeared from the site.

I'm surprised The Real Shaving Co. Shave cream is suddenly a bit expensive. I am a fan of this stuff and the last time i bought it maybe 2 or 3 months ago it was about 7 or 8 dollars a tube. I guess Creighton ramped up the price. I would never pay 20 dollars or more for that cream. I guess Ill stick to VDH, Pacific caffeinated shave cream, Haslinger or Palmolive even for my cheapo creams.

I have not used the 'cheap' stuff in awhile. I finally got over the price tags of some stuff. I am currently using Sampsons (not Simpsons) and for ~$20 I could not ask for more.
