    Default Meibner tremonia

Hey all: I have been following the Meibner Tremonia thread with some interest now. That being said I am almost out of my Castle Forbes lime and think I want to pull the trigger on a tub of the paste. How does the Meitner lime compare to the castle Forbes lime? Also is there any consensious out there on what is the best scent is? This is my own personal opinion but I hate it when a company gives you weird names for products. It discourages me from trying the product at all! I don't mind trying different products but on the same note I want to know exactly what the heck I'm buying. Thanks again in advance for your opinions! Greg

Their product is very different. The lime is totally different than CF. I've used them both. The Tremonia is what it says, a dark lime very heavy and not sweet or light at all. I like to call them adult scents. You should get some samples and try them first.

I agree with thebigspendur. Samples first. The MT certainly won't be to everyones taste. I got some samples of Strong n Scottish and Pink Grapefruit. The pink is ok, but I absolutely adore the SnS. It's my new favourite. I'll be using up all the creams I have then getting a jar of SnS to be my regular cream. It's definitely a love/hate scent though.

A friend sent me 3 samples Meissner Tremonia. I believe they were the paste versions being pliable. I used the Himalayan Heights scented one this morning. The MT easily produced a nice satisfactory lather. Neither I nor my wife cared for the scent which is a plus for getting samples to try first.

I have other creams that will do a similar job of making a lather for a lower cost and with a scent that I like more. Based on that I do not think I will be buying MT. That is not a knock on the soaps performance, which is just fine by me, but a reflection on my preferences for buying a shaving soap/cream. A good product just not for me under the circumstances.

I think the Dark Limes is safe to buy. The scent is dried lime: "They taste sour and citrusy like a lime but they also taste earthy and somewhat smoky and lack the sweetness of fresh limes.". And I don't think you can go wrong with the Mint Ice Menthol, either. Every other scent should be sampled first, especially those that look familiar (like lavender, which has a strong floral note, and Strong & Scottish, which smells like 30yr Laphroaig).

[Edit] There is a very nice and comprehensive review focusing on scents over at The Original Safety Too.

But scents are also a cultural phenomenon, I think. Almost any "artisan" soap to come out of the US nearly made me gag because they are sickeningly sweet. I am sure these scents are likeable if you are used to that level of sweetness, but over here, only the tartiest of cosmetics have that level of sweetness.

Performance is impeccable, and aftershave skin care is phenomenal. But other soaps perform equally well, and cost less. The much underestimated Savonnerie du bon Berger being a prime example. With Meißner Tremonia, you pay for highest quality, organic ingredients, actual craftsmanship, and beautiful but heavy packaging. Not everyone's cup of tea, I'm sure, but I have been using these products for months now, phasing out other popular (and pricey) products in the process.

PS The company is called Meißner Tremonia, by the way. The ß is a voiceless s (and actually an sz ligature in old German script).

I am sure, if I wanted to take the time to try all the different scents, I'd manage to find one in the line that I really liked. I just don't want to buy full containers to find out.

Yes there must cultural differences at work too. Looking at it from this side I'd say the three scents I have are bland and kind of industrial. Oth I like the scent of Tabac which is "tarty" enough for me.

Yes, like I said the performance was just fine, not a problem. Being a Neanderthal I guess I just can't possibly appreciate all that went into making this product and the marketing of it. Must be a cultural difference there also. I'll leave others who are more obviously couth wax poetic on that as you have.
