Default Modern Williams shave stick home made

Since grating, adding glycerin, mixing, packing and nuking 2 pucks of modern Williams to make a new puck worked so well I decided to try and make a shave stick. Re purposed a used screw up alum deodorant container and filled it with modern Williams reconstituted the same way as the puck. Left it out over night to set up but haven't tried it yet, maybe later today.

Have to say it works like a charm. Whetted face, rubbed the stick liberally around and rubbed the damp synthetic brush on the end of the stick for good measure, then face lathered. Produced enough good lather for 3 passes with plenty left over.

Just might have to try that. What was your ratio of glycerin to Williams?

On another topic. What is your opinion of Erskine synthetic brushes? Picked up a couple off the Bay cheaply.

Really could not say say what the ratio of glycerin to Williams was. I just hit it pretty heavy with the glycerin and you likely don't need as much as I used. Not very scientific I'm afraid.

If you are asking about vintage Erskine nylon bristle brushes I have no experience with those, sorry. I have only used synthetic brushes/knots the are currently made. I suspect they are quite different from the Erskines.

Interested to hear how the vintage nylon ones perform though.

As another less than scientific person to another judging an amount to add to another is often described by me as just a little, a drop or two, or a reasonable amount.

Used one of the Erskines this morning (labeled Duke). Nicely flexible with a level of scritch that I like. Trying the other tomorrow. Used the one on the left this morning.

Good to see that there are at least 2 scientists on the forum.

I guess I really should pick up a vintage nylon brush just to do a side by side comparison with the new synthetics.

Nice work on the shave stick, Bob! Good thinking using that deodorant push-up container

Hold the fort, good thing I checked my odds and sods box in the basement. Found this vintage nylon shave brush and gave it a quick clean with Simple Green. Yes outhouse poet at work. Will have to test it later this week. Thanks again for the offer.
