Thread: Can anybody suggest a good soap/cream setup for travel?

Football season is on the horizon & that means hotels and travel. Can anybody suggest good soap/cream for travel? I'd also appreciate it if anybody could suggest a durable dish or mug to use it with and what to do about the brush. I'm in the south and I'm thinking it's not such a great idea to travel with a wet brush. Just to make things murkier, I have no idea how to build a lather on my face. I'm currently using a soap plug and a badger brush and building lather in the mug.

I'd go light with a synthetic brush and a shave stick for face lathering. I'd look at Arko, Palmolive or Tabac shave sticks and learn how to face lather.

As Bob suggests, keep it simple.
My last "one night trip" shaving gear was a DE, tube of Proraso and my hand. Didn't even use a brush.

I bought a very nice Dopp kit (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ilpage_o09_s00) that has room for a mug, razor in sheath, razorock, shave cream, travel brush, etc in the top, with a small compartment in the bottom for tubes of shampoo, body wash, conditioner, whatever (although for those, you can use what the hotel provides).

I will suggest a small tube of C.O. Bigelow, $5 bucks at Bath & Bodyworks, as for the brush, what ever you have can travel, and for a mug, I use either a coffee mug or glass that is provided in the room.

Stick of Tabac or Palmolive and a 1305 with flaking paint in a travel brush holder.

Just make sure the natural brush is dry before you close it up....gentle blow drying can help that along.

Travel shaving can teach you a lot about doing more with less.
After one of my recent trips using a limited space I took up cleaning the blade on the top of my weak side forearm (and I shave with both hands - 50/50)
Came home and have not used the washcloth on the counter method since. (I have razordinkaphobia and only rinse once, carefully, at the end)

Switched to face lather on a trip years ago after scoring some Palmolive sticks on a trip to Germany (they have this stuff in the Grocery store...my German friends thought I was crazy)

Here are two options. I agree with the synthetic brush. Look at the Kent Infinity (inexpensive and effective).

1. You can get a 4 oz. plastic jar from Specialty Bottles or one similar, put in a puck like a Stirling sample or a full puck of Haslinger (they will fit). These jars are small and you can lather in the jar.

2. You can get one of these salsa dishes at Wal-Mart for a buck or two. Pair it with the travel size Coate's Creams. They are a great cream and are the perfect size.



I face lather now, so it is much easier to travel.

I've found this to work good for my brush while traveling: Find a large pill bottle to put it in (the brush fits perfect), and then drill a series of holes in the cap so the brush will dry.

I just got back from a 2 week vacation abroad. I went with illinois 827 strop, a La Toja shaving stick, Haslinger ringenblumen soap puck for variety a Semogue owners club boar brush that I dont really care if it gets abused and one razor a Thiers issard AOS carbonsong 5/8 honed up and ready. I made through 8 shaves without a hitch stropping only. the soap puck I just put in one of those water glasses you find in most hotels and that was my lathering vessel. this is the first time I traveled with my straight. I used to just bring a DE and a few blades with me. Im glad I did this because I got a better Idea how much mileage I can get from just one straight razor. When im home I always change razors often and mess with them on hones all the time because well you know I have chasing the great shaving edge disease. Traveling with a straight shaving gear is not so hard really, it worked out well.

OK, so here's where I'm at. Bought a tube of Proraso and a small stainless mug. Already have a small badger brush. I'll probably just use whatever SR I'm using when I leave & pack my strop as well. Planning on throwin the next one in the rotation into the Dopp kit as well as a backup. Appreciate everyone's help & I'll report in as to how it works.
