My first few responses were in jest, as most here know,,, use what makes you happy; that is what this journey is about.

I discovered Barbasol over 25 years ago,, I strictly used Barbasol for 20 years, then five years ago found SRP & wetshaving,,, I won't be going back to Barbasol. I can pack a puck of shave soap a lot easier than a can of Barbasol.

    Funny, That!
I found an O-l-d little sample can of Barbasol and tried it for a SOTD. Durn good shave that day. Now I use a shave stick when traveling, though

All I'm really saying is don't poo-poo this aside. Some of these soaps and creams now cost almost a dollar to load your brush. Personally I can think of better ways to enjoy a dollar. A dram of fine Scotch comes to mind.
I will not give up my Stirling Tuscany or my Proraso Green either. I was just surprised at the strides the can has made since the late 1980's. The last can of it I bought came out as a dry foam and not creamy like it is now.
I didn't people to think that they should abandon their usual stuff. I wouldn't. But I think it might be a good idea for a new wet shaver to invest a dollar into a small can of this just in case they can't get their lather right.
Personally if I have to spend more than 15 seconds on a soap to get it to lather, then somethings wrong with the soap. The two brands that I use are great on that front. The Proraso does seem to dissipate faster that the Stirling though.
I also discard soap that I have to spend more than 15 or 20 seconds loading. Again if it takes that much product to get an acceptable lather I won't waste time on it. To many other better performing products out there that won't frustrate me.
I just don't waste time or money on what I consider inferior products.
    Cheers,
    John

The foam barbers got from their lather king machines was garbage by today's standards. It was light and dry but it was cheap and convenient for the barber.

Every time I hear the sound of shave foam coming out of the can. It makes me think of being in a cattle car. In Fort Benning Georgia circa 1987. Packed in tight, and my buddy is in front of me. Then his whole can of shave cream explodes and oozes out of his rucksack. FUBAR'd his day. I had to carry a Bic disposable around and dry shave mid day my beard grows too quick. It beat all the damn push ups.

Garbage might be a little strong. The last time I went to a barber the warm lather from the vintage machine felt OK. This was about 6 months ago as I've decided to let my hair grow back out.

I still have a big ol' green can of Barbasol. I was using it with a old gold Track 2 when working on the oil rigs as a quick & convenient way to shave. Quick & convenient, not near as pleasant as the shaves on my days off, but it's true that the lather is a lot slicker and won't dry on your face.
