Taylor of Old Bond Street
I received some samples of different scents of this brand. I must say I understand why so many people love the Sandalwood scent. Eton college is my next favorite.
The one thing I don't understand is why this cream is so popular other than the scent. The performance is just not there for me.
Anyone else agree with me or am I in this boat by myself?

I'm sure your not in the boat by yourself,,, but I'm not in it with you.
I really love TOBS & like you Eton College is my favorite,,, I even have the cologne.
I find all TOBS to be easy to lather, spread evenly & stays consistent in the layer applied. ,,, meaning no drying out fast or spotting. It seems to soften the whiskers or maybe there is another process happening that is being attributed to softening whiskers.

Thanked: 1I had a sandlewood stick that worked well, Eton cream that fell by the wayside as I got into tallow based soaps. I do have and love the Eton aftershave. I usually pair it with MWF.

Gentlemen,
I find the Taylor of Old Bond Street creams to be quality at a reasonable price. No bad lather with these creams.

I really like the TOBS creams as well, I find them easier to lather than some of my pucks, but I do prefer the feel of soaps during and after a shave. I have the Eton and grapefruit here at the moment (the eton is one of my favorite smells). I also tried most of their other scents and like them all except for lavender and sandalwood. (I think TI has a nice lavender scent, but it's a bi$%^ to lather, and I have an AOS Sandalwood that I put second only to my MWF)

Thanked: 44I can't comment on the creams, but I was underwhelmed by the TOBS soap. Not that there was anything wrong with it, it just doesn't warrant the price IMO.

When I took on the straight razor journey ToB was the first, because of price, cream I tried. I really liked the scent of Eton College. I was however slow shaving and occasionally my lather would dry on me. I also was a miser when it came to creams and soaps. Not that I would not buy expensive product, I just used the tip of a pin and hoped for a three pass shave.
After a couple months in the wet shave world I had tried all the big players creams and learned that better lather is had with more product and water
I also believe Taylor of Bond creams are very good. The best? That we would all debate, but very good in my opinion."The best way to have a good idea is to have a lot of ideas." -Linus Pauling

Thanked: 3228I have and use 2 TOBS products, Eaton College cream and Jermyn Street soap. Both lather easily and the lather is fine by me, like the scents also.

Thanked: 2284It's all about Shaving Shop for me. It's easily my favorite scent. It hasn't been getting much love from me recently due to some other very good soaps I've acquired recently. I find it to be one of the easiest to lather in my den.....
To the OP, have you tried adding more or less water to your lather?
Edit, I said "it" to be one of easiest to lather in should hav said, all TOBS to be easy to lather.Last edited by HARRYWALLY; 09-06-2015 at 01:01 PM.

Thanked: 3228Just noticed the OP is from Texas so I wonder if hard water is part of the problem?
