    Default Clubman Pinaud Shave Soap

    Hey Guys,
    First shave tonight with the Clubman Pinaud Shave Soap.

    First observations right out of the box;
    Fresh light scent,, not as potent as the aftershave with the same name.
    A soft soap,,, not as soft as Cella, but close.

    I picked three very different brushes to work lather;
    A custom badger by William Barber, bulb knot, with lots of backbone, used primarily with pucks.
    A Thater fan knot with backbone & scritch, but spreads product as smooth as Leonardo da Vinci's brush.
    A custom badger by William Barber known as the Queen Bee,, a lather making machine.

    Each brush was soaked for 1 minute in hot water, loaded with Clubman Pinaud Shave Soap, 15 circles clockwise & 15 circles counter clockwise from the container. The loaded brushes were worked for 1 1/2 minutes in a bowl to produce the lather.

    The razor chosen was a Wade & Butcher "The Celebrated", a Max Sprecher restoration. This razor is my soap/cream tester, second sharpest razor of the rotation, but brutal with a product that lacks cushion. There was no pre-shave treatment, the lather was applied to a dry face with 2 days growth.

    The lather looked rich, but felt thin. I was afraid of no cushion & the lather drying out before I could finish.

    Results:
    The lather applied smoothly, evenly & did not dry out. The shave was a smooth one , with the alum post shave giving no negative feedback. There was not much of a cushion with this shave soap, but enough to keep my most brutal straight from irritating my face.
    The next shave with this soap will be with a DE razor , loaded with a Feather.

    Would I list Clubman Pinaud Shave Soap in the top 10 best of all shave soaps I have tried?
    No,,,,
    But,,,
    I was not dissapointed in the soap and I'm going to keep a supply in the Shave Den.

    Thank You for the first impressions !!

    I might be wrong, but it looks like your lather got better and thicker by the time you got
    to the third brush ?.... Fewer air bubbles ?

    Are you saying that the scent is reminiscent of Clubman aftershave, just not as strong ?

    I want to like this soap (so much !!) when it arrives, so I'm hoping that it takes a while
    to master and get the best out of it.

    Your right about the lather on the third brush, that brush is the Queen Bee, my best brush of over 60+ brushes in my Den.
    She works miracles with lather.

    The scent is a faint Clubman scent. It's hard to compare the soap scent to the aftershave, as you know the aftershave scent is so dominating.
    I think you could get away with using the Clubman soap & applying another aftershave scent without a conflict.

    I bet if you put a half a cup as you build lather of the AS you'd get a great scent and a good start to the application of your typical half gallon you wear!

    You know he probably just soaks his brush in the as and use that instead of water.
