Actually Robin quite a few shavings soaps contains a small amount of an anesthetic, not as a main ingredient, but part of the formula. For example one of the soaps you enjoy "Meißner Tremonia" contains Camphora oil an anesthetic.

Yes, Martin, that's what I said. Menthol, too.

But... that's still not "cushion". Unless you also use a chair as an anæsthetic. Something I have often considered whilst dealing with staff.

The anesthetic makes the shave more comfortable just like the cushion on your chair.

Or like the mattress on my bed. Excellent point. I shall keep that in mind when I write my next review. Thanks!

Cushion makes for a comfortable shave(painless) just like the cushion on your chair!
Are you trying to imply that if we glued foam rubber to our faces that our shaves would be more comfortable?
The easy road is rarely rewarding.

Wow, some of the crowd here seems a bit humor challenged this week.

Washing your face de-grease it I would think. The soap hold the hair out so the razor can shave it off. It is the cushion between the hair and the skin. Between the hair and the skin Putting a cushion between the razor and skin makes as much sense as putting on a work glove to feel razor stubble after you shave.

Cushion, cushion is for your backside, I've not tried to shave that... yet.

I am currently using MamaBears's Cedar and it has a nice dense lather with a lot of glide. Especially on the second pass when my face is extra wet from the rinse. Not a lot of cushion on that pass and it's an ATG pass but smooth nonetheless.

Having said that, each soap is different, I have a CT&E soap that sadly didn't perform very well and a Razorock 888 that frankly I'd blindly buy again and again and again.

Cushion is nice, if you can define it to a point that is comfortable

After reading this post, (http://straightrazorpalace.com/shavi...cond-pass.html ).
When taking away the lather you get closer shave. This is something I´ve been practicing when I do my last touch up. Spots that are almost impossible to get to are just gone when using water only. I´ve also tried to shave the second pass with water only and it gave me a more close shave than with lather.
So there must be something between the blade and the skin for this to happen, otherwise it should be the same result as with the lather on the face .
