    Default Another MDC soap question

I splurged last year and bought myself some MDC soap, I do like the scent and the performance of it, but I find that now I rarely use it because of the jar, I bought the small jar, so now it's a pain in the butt to load the brush. My question to you guys is, have any of you done a warm water melt to transfer the soap to another shaving bowl/ dish? I've done this to my Mamma Bear soaps and it works great. But I'm apprehensive about trying this with MDC, it's the most I've spent on soap and would hate to ruin it. Any thoughts or insights would be greatly appreciated.

    Small Jar?

How big is the small jar? Did not know they made a small jar.

Don’t think you have to heat it, just scoop it into a larger jar and pack it down, it should smooth out with regular use. I would use a jar about the size of the normal one, it works great for me.

Never done it with MDC, but have with Macaroot and AOS creams that are similar.

It is pricy but last so long on a per use basis, it's not that expensive.

    ReardenSteel,
Don't mess with that fabulous soap with warm transfer and other adventures. Just scoop it out into a bigger pot.

Thanks to both of you for your thoughts. The bottom of the jar says it is 50 grams, being American that means nothing to me. . It has an 1 1/2 inch diameter and is about 2 inches tall. I'll see what I can do about scooping it out into a glass bowl.

As for the size, there is an online site that sells a 200 gram jar, so I guess I have the mini-bar size.

The MDC is not a glycerin based soap if I,m correct it wouldn't be very good to heat it. Just scoop it out as suggested, I done this to divide my 200 gram jars to share some with a friend. Tc

I have the 200 gr jar,,, got it from a member here who likes to strop a lot.

I put a little hot water on top of the soap in the jar & let it sit till my brush finishes soaking, then I use a brush with a lot of backbone like my Thater . I do 15 circles on the soap in the jar clockwise ,,, then 15 counterclockwise to load it. Then I go to a simple bowl & make lather,, a small amount of water in the bowl. Plenty for 3 passes.

I would just remove the soap from it's container, as whole as possible, them place in a large Pyrex bowl. Then lather out of the Pyrex bowl,,, I do this with my Cella.

If the soap is too hard to flatten out in a larger jar, grate it with a standard cheese grater, and you'll be able to press the gratings into the jar. I do this with all my soaps that come in a small size, making it difficult to load the brush, such as Klar and Provence Santé soaps.
