Default Caswell Massey Shave Cream Review

I recieved a sample of this Caswell Massey "Dr. Hunter: Original Barber Shop Shave Cream" while I was picking up some soaps at CM the other day. I've never had much interest in their shave products, but their soaps are top notch. Anyway, I decided I'd try it out this morning and thought I'd share in the experience.

Upon opening the package it had the same velvety shiney consistency as the shave cream offered by AOS, but is only offered in unscented. I applied the cream to the right side of my face by hand, and for the left side I whipped it into lather with my brush, to try it both ways.

Hand Application - The cream application was very smooth and consistent, and 2 minutes after application I noticed a difference in the softness of my beard. The shave and lubrication quality was middle of the line.

Brush Application - It seems as though this cream is not meant to be used with a brush....the lather thins out dramatically even with a teaspoon of water. With a tub of this cream I think it is possible to get a decent brush application, but it would take a very large amount.

That said I recieved a decent shave on the right side of my face (hand applied), but found the cream to dry out rather quickly. The left side was disappointing and I finished my next two passes with a quick batch of Proraso.

I would highly recommend CM bath soaps, but am passing on their barber shop shave cream.

I just tried their Almond 1752 shave cream tube. Found it for $4 at Marshall's and thought I would give it a whirl.

It was not too bad...had a hard time getting the right consistency and lather - but have seen that every first time with a new soap/cream.

The smell is typical almond (some love it...it is ok for me).

But the shave was pretty smooth. Very smooth.

Anyone else have any comments on it?
