@Phrank - If you like the Stirling Gin & Tonic, which has become one of my personal favorites, you should give Chatillon Lux's Colbeck AS a try. I know that I've been bringing this stuff up quite a bit as of late (no, I'm not selling it or related to Chatillon Lux or Shawn Maher in any way) because its quality aftershave on its own and I love it paired with this soap.

I've tried a several of Stirling's offerings in the last six months or so and every one of them has performed well, even those that I won't be reordering. As of now their Gin & Tonic and Margaritas in the Arctic have a permanent home in my shave den and there's a few other fragrances I want try.

That gin and tonic does sound like a winner, thanks for the review phrank.
Great 'go too' summer daytime bevy as well.

Not having tried other citrus soaps, I didn't mind the MdC scent. And it does lather as well as their other soaps.

Well, I, for one, dig the Argumes. Not as tart and heavy as some, but a pleasant scent, I think.
It breaks out lather right quick! Just like all the MDC.
All I have used for the last few weeks!

    Tanks, Mike!

I look at my paltry pile of soaps and don't wonder if I will use it up.
    No way!

I just hope I can eventually try them all about 3 times.

Phrank, from some of the reading I’ve done thus far, what I gather is that there should be little difference between a tallow versus vegetal soap if they’re well formulated. Caveat to that is that’s what I’ve gleaned from a few Internet sources…and yep, we know that everything posted on the ‘net is 100% accurate and unbiased!

To offset Internet info., a few books I purchased on soap making arrived today. One is a deep dive into the chemistry…it’s been years since my college organic chemistry classes, but the material in the book doesn’t look (at least at first blush) like it’s hitting college level chem (though the author is a PhD). Plus, unlike my much younger years, dinking around with this chem is legal!

If nothing else, it’ll be fun (or at least I hope it is) to learn about and better understand this aspect of our sport. Plus, with so many entering into the commercial shaving soap business (the choices and products out there are staggering these days) I think this education will enable me to become a smarter consumer when it comes to my soaps and cream purchases.

I've got my LPL soaps, lids off, sitting in a nice place, going to give them some time to air out.

Interesting though, is that there was some, "lore" around MdC, saying to do the same thing, leave the lid off for a good while to fully allow the soap to develop, never done it with MdC and never had a problem with it.

I will give the LPL a chance to air out, see if that makes a difference, as the Cologne / Fougere, one I was very much looking forward to, was a complete bust - lots of soap used, little to no lather, figure it can't hurt to try. Strange though, couple of my LPL soaps are stars, the Oud is fantastic, really an outstanding soap, scent it beautiful, and it's an easy performer.

So I'm going to give this a test, let them sit out for awhile....

This is a poured LPL and has cured in this jar. Amazing stuff though I might like a bit more residual feel.

They DO recommend to toss the lid....Must be a reason!

Yep, I've never left the lids off my MdC tubs for extended periods and haven't ever experienced lathering issues with the soap. I'm with you, Phrank--am hoping our LPL dry outs do the trick!
