Obie, did you mean tub of Wilkinson shave soap? If you did, it does the job but the Wilky shave stick is much better.

    Bob,
Tub of it, I meant, and Wilkinson, not Wilkinson Sword. Thanks for pointing out my mistake. I don't think I've ever tried this soap. I think I meant to order the stick, but after I had placed the order and paid for it, I noticed I had ordered the tub instead.

Could we pin this thread to the top of the soaps section?

Either way, feel free to delete this post as doesn't add to thread.

I'm glad that you mentioned Speick, Obie. I haven't used it in over five years, but it used to be one of my favorite soaps. I would generally grate the sticks into a bowl. Their aftershave lotion is about as good as it gets, and I enjoy the natural scent of the soap. At around $5 for a stick, it's a real bargain. I'm going to put it on my list to use next week and I'm wondering if I'll still rate it as high as I remember.

    Gentlemen,
Have you felt a little burn from Martin de Candre rose?

I have used Martin de Candre for years, mostly the original scent. I also have the fougere.
Suddenly I am getting some burn from the rose version, especially around the mouth — upper lip, chin, that whole region. By the final pass my face is burning a little, and when the shave ends, my face is red. The skin feels irritated.

I will use the soap for the rest of the week with different razors to make sure what the culprit is — the soap or perhaps something else.

No burn for me using MdC rose. If it is the soap it has to be the fragrance, the base is the same I believe.

    Steve,
Agreed to on the original scent and the fougere. No problem there. It must be the rose scent, for some reason.

    Obie,
I haven't tried the rose yet but I find the fougere burns my face ever so slightly but the original is fine. I too can only put it down to the scent.

I have all of them but the original scent. Never had any burning with a good lather. When there's too little water with MdC, I do find that a shave can be irritating on the upper lip. Which is odd, because it is scarcely a problem for me otherwise.

That’s interesting. I always keep my lather on the watery side, especially when shaving with the straight razor. Still, as noted, I am beginning to suspect the scent in the rose version. I’ve never had any irritation with the original scent.

I have no problem with the Rose.
