Thanks, Obie, for a very enjoyable thread. Crabtree & Evelyn soaps have a new formulation that is a big improvement over their previous one. I've enjoyed them, but still rank them as second tier, whereas I would have ranked their previous formulation as third tier.

Third Tier soaps, or soaps that I just don't like, usually get gifted, so they do not end up, "boxed".
The other day, I took most of my favorite soaps, and swapped them out for soaps that for some reason, just weren't resonating with me. So I'm giving what I consider my Top Tier 1 soaps a break, and rotating my entire soap inventory just to change things up, and to see how I feel about soaps months and years ago I had decided I didn't prefer.
One of those soaps landed for my shave tonight - Mitchells Wool Fat - which was removed almost two years ago, for various reasons, too numerous to list.
So The Fat was stellar, really enjoyed the shave with it, great performer, forgot about the refreshing fresh scent, lathered easily and robustly, really does feel great on the face, during and after the shave, and I can clearly see why this soap remains on so many others Top Tier.
The experiment continues, boxed soaps that haven't been touched in quite awhile, living on the shaving edge and busting out of my comfort zone....

Lol, I'm quite fuzzy so potential real estate is abundant. Just regrew most of my arm hair from early honing adventures. I used some proraso sandalwood today for my first straight razor shave since using a shavette in germany. It was so nice a shave I considered shaving neck down. I prepped it poorly, but probably once of my best shaves since returning to straights. Hence my new avatar

when I started my wet shaving journey 3 years ago....I started with MDC and CF..>>>>>>> because I did my research here before buying and decided to spend the extra $$$ on what nearly everyone thought was superior quality. Over the past 3 years I have spent hundreds of dollars on many soaps/creams (if not over $1000) and though I've enjoyed the journey.....I also find myself returning to MDC and CF as well.
Reminds me of one of my favorite quotes.....by Burt Reynolds (don't laugh!).... he said:
"I can show a newbie where the landmines are; chances are, he will step on them anyway...."Last edited by Big; 04-23-2016 at 05:59 PM.

Thanked: 2591Tried Vito's Red (not sure which of the two kinds) , it is a top tier performer for me. Super easy to lather, makes tons of lather, does not dry on the face, and has good slickness.

Thanked: 3223I had Cella also and did not like the scent of that either. On the performance side I think both Cella and Vitos Red are pretty comparable/interchangeable.
The almond scent I can get along with and enjoy very much is Boellis Panama 1924. To me it smells a whole lot different from either Cella or Vitos Red yet both of those are supposed to have an almond scent.
