Not an easy task buying something you've never seen or smelled online so here I am asking you if Tabac is worth it? does it smell good? Also, would the Tabac bowl fit the MWF puck? many thanks.

I like everything about Tabac. The shave stick and aftershave are the products I use most regularly. The smell? I love it, but there's only one way to find out if you do.
I enjoy Tabac and that includes the aftershave and balm.
The scent of the soap is not that strong (imo) but it does give good glide and great post shave feel.
I have the loose puck in a plastic bowl so can't help you with the Tabac bowl.
Worth it, I would say yes.
I have only used the stick, the performance is first class.
Fragrance? Not my favourite, but it doesn't last beyond the shave.
Any soap will fit any bowl, if you grate it and press it into the bowl.
If you type Tabac in the search box there are likely numerous posts about Tabac. From what I have read on here not too many people knock Tabac's performance as a shave soap. Where you will find dissent is on the scent of Tabac.
Personally I love the scent and performance of Tabac. I use the puck, shave stick, AS and Edt. I refuse to pay the surcharge for a soap puck supplied with a makers bowl. I just buy the refill puck and put it in my own container, usually a 1 cup Pyrex or Anchor Hocking container with lid. Done that way I'd say Tabac is worth the price.
Bob
I agree with all the above. I personally love the scent as foes my SWMBO.
To give you an idea of how long the scent lasts.... she DE shaves her legs, arms, and uh ohs with it. By the time she applies moisturizer, no scent (or at least it gets covered and can't tell).
Granted we both enjoy the scent. I had the soap before the AS as a soap is to shave, scent comes second.
Rachmaninov,
Tabac is a good soap. It lathers well. Cushion and glide are good. Aftershave qualities are good. Some gentlemen like the fragrance and some don't. I love the fragrance. Is Tabac worth it? To me it is. Is it worth it to you? Well, I can't answer that. I think it's good stuff and worth the try. And yes, it should fit the Mitchell's Wool Fat ceramic dish.
Tabac is a decent product. Their stick is surely one of the better ones available
Chrisl wanted to try Tabac so I bought my puck with me to the first Frozen Toe Meet-Up at Mike Blue's place I think in 2009. I cut out a slice for him and he brought it home. He let his wife smell it and she declared it to smell like a combination of Aqua Net and Lysol. Now I don't at all concur with her assessment, but I don't live with her, so Chris had to toss it in the trash outside, unused.
My point is that some people really dislike the smell. Try not to marry those people. I think Tabac has a great smell and lather.
I'm a bit of a Tabac cheerleader. It is utterly fantastatic. I have 5 tubes of tabac cream stockpiled, and I believe that to be an insufficient number
I started rotating Tabac and MWF. I'm now just using Tabac every day as it just always gives me a great shave and I do like the smell.
My wife is not a fan of the smell of Tabac. I work long shifts in a remote location, so when I am at work I often take it, because I really like both the smell and the excellent shaving qualities.
You won't go wrong with it, it's pretty inexpensive to try and scent aside you will like the performance, I use MDC primarily, and Castle Forbes, but I still use my Tabac and like Rez sad when I went to work I was gone weeks at a time where the scent was not an issue with my wife. So Tabac was my go to for travel, also the AS is in my opinion a nice refreshing product, not quite Aqua Velva Ice Blue but real close. Man I miss work cause I don't get to use that stuff around home much! Buy with confidence and like Bob said just buy the puck, any old cup will work and what doesn't fit get out the cheese grater and make it fit. Tc
By the way after you have been in this long enough you will have lots of containers from other soaps and creams to use on your new purchases, I just picked up two new soaps to try. Scottish Fibe Shaving and Gren Mountain, the green is in an old Cella tub and the Scotish is in Proraso tub. Tc
I've tried the soap, cream and stick and I'm in the fan column.
My travel soap is the Tabac stick - like others here have noted a great performer.
The scent? Let's just say there are not many on the fence...
Let us know what you think...
All right, I'm convinced. Order placed of 1 X Tabac Shaving Soap!
Tabac is a top performer for me as well! I really enjoy the scent, but some people do not. If your one of the one's who doesn't, just leave the lid off of it for a couple of weeks, and the scent fades pretty well.
I used to buy my soaps sequentially, not buying a new one till the previous one was finished off. Since joining SRP in 2007, that changed. Now I have enough soaps that I cannot imagine emptying even one container before I drop. Suppose my nephews or their kids will be able to refill my tubs.
Tabac is a great soap, factor in the price and it's even greater. Like Bob, I put my Tabac in a 1 cup pyrex bowl. It is very easy to lather. The scent to me is reminiscent of pipe smoke, in a good way.
Just so you know, Tabac fits into an old Spice mug perfectly! That's where I have mine..... I love Tabac.
As said Tabac is very good I like it,
I use the soap, I have it in a stone bowl with a lid,
As mentioned the scent is a love or hate affair, and the scent on the soap is not that strong, I have the EDT that is much stronger.
I dont have the MWF bowl (just the soap) so I dont know if it will fit, that said my Tabac puck did not in the stone bowl (Too small) so I grated it the cheese grater (When the girlfriend was out that is!!!) and then just squashed it in tightly to fit, perfect.
With most everyone out trying the wonderful artisan shave soaps out there the old stalwarts do not get a mention too often. Just started a week of using Tabac after a too long a break. Normally, I like inexpensive shave soaps the perform very well but for Tabac I make an exception to that as it is that good imho and will pay the bit extra to use it. It does everything well for me as in exceptionally easy to lather, is very slick, not too drying and great old time scent. Personally, I think it is a shave soap the everyone should try at least once.
Bob
I use Tabac twice per week.
If you watch Amazon you can get good deals. I bought several pucks for <$9.00 each.
The price today is $10.79 which I think is an excellent price for the quality of Tabac.
I, like many here, have more soaps than I can possibly use in my remaining time yet I bought another Bay Rum last week.
I did spring for the Tabac in their bowl because it is glass & looks good. However I have some pucks in Wal Mart sugar bowls with covers.
They work quite well..
I bought a puck not too long ago and put it in rotation. It comes up next week for a road trip. I love everything about it, as already noted. I’m using Mitchell’s Wool Fat this week. It too does a good job.
I'm a Tabac fan, can't get it here, but I visit South Africa quite often, stocked up there, both pucks and sticks, use it once a week, Usually first day of our work week, which is a Sunday. I don't shave on weekends, so have two days growth to rub the stick into. always a good shave.
I have even grown to like the fragrance.
I have painted too many cars to still have a good sense of smell; i can barely smell the Tabac fragrance. That might be why I
favor the Bay Rum sent.
Tabac? Yes definitely worth it. At least the soap is... I've not tried the other products. I can't say I particularly want to either cz I'm not a big fan of the scent. I get why some really don't like it and some do, I find it kinda ok but also pretty nasty at the same time. However I can't deny what a great performer it is and that it's well priced too.... in the UK anyway. The past few years I've been using mostly mid priced British and European artisan stuff like Wickham's, OSP and LPL. Also a big fan of Fine Accoutrements pucs (esp the Italian Citrus....fantastic!) But in the last week or so I decided to pull an old stick of Tabac out and give it a go and I'm thrilled that I did. Heaps of thick n slick lather from just a few rubs around a wet face. Needs a little brush work for great results but nothing arduous....it's a joy in fact.
I plan on getting a couple more stick refills, grating them up and adding some essential oil to improve the smell. This'll last me ages. I think the Tabac possibly out performs the others mentioned (as much as I like them) and at almost a third of the price, well, move over.
I'm a longtime Tabac evangelist.
Work used to take me through Singapore or Northern Europe infrequently... whenever it did I would clean out the shelve of Tabac products and fill up my suitcase with a year's supply (Mustafa's in Singapore was a gold mine... I'm still using my el cheapo Omega Boar bristle brush with stand I got for maybe $10 a dozen or so years ago there... broken in boar bristle is where it's at for me...).
Nowadays it's easy enough to come by on Amazon. I still use it regularly, and hand out a shave stick to wet shaving enthusiasts should the topic come up...
Wonder if the OP enjoyed or loathed the scent of Tabac, not that it matters any.
Tabac pays off huge unless the scent repulses you. ;) Realized I don’t shave with that soap nearly often enough so I must lather Tabac weekly. Great stuff.
With Tabac only two possible answers. You like the smell, you do not. For me it has something more: the smell of the bathroom when I went in the morning just after my dad who used only that soap for wetshaving.
Tuesday and Friday are Tabac days.
The AS and EdT are for when I leave the house
Certain scents can evoke powerful memorys instantaneously.
I can be walking down the road and start thinking of a particular occurrence of my childhood for no apparent reason. Then I'd smell a certain scent and think "ahh!"
Our senses our more accute than we realise sometimes.
But then again I do have a big nose.....
Tabac's performance is hard to beat which is why I've used it since the mid 60's. I'm one who loves the scent, but then I tend to prefers scents of more traditional soaps, such as those of English soaps and creams. I do find it difficult to understand why the scent is polarizing, since it's a mixture of Bergamot, Neroli, Lavender, Tobacco, Oakmoss, and Vanilla, in addition to a powdery scent. I always recommend Tabac to newbies, as it's so easy to lather, even in hard water. I also like the A/S splash and balm, and the EdT, and often get complements on the scent.
Mark me firmly down in the Tabac product user column.
Shave soap, AS, cologne and bath soap. Like the scent and the performance is outstanding. If you find that you don't like the scent as has been said before.
Leaving the lid off can let the scent fade and you are left with a great soap.
Have introduced a few people to the Tabac products. All have become fans.
Ken.
Wether it be a stick or in puck form, Tabac is a soap that will always be on the shelf for when the mood swings me that way. Its good stuff.
