    Default Cushion, glide, slickness

I must admit to being a bit embarrassed to not truly understanding these terms with great clarity. If you don't mind helping me I would appreciate it!

Well it is not like there is a glossary. As far as my opinion goes glide and slickness are more or less the same thing. It refers to how much drag there is on your skin as a shave ready blades passes over it while wiping the lather and whiskers away. Great glide has no drag on your skin, there is still the small amount of resistance of the blade cutting whiskers. Bad glide makes the blade sticky on your skin. Cushion on the other hand is a lather building reference and refers to how dense and fluffy the lather is when you are whipping it up in the bowl and then applying it to your face.

This is something that comes up, I think I,m going to just watch this one, but slickness is self explanatory, and most likely so is glide, one in the same. Now for cushion, there are others who can explain it better than me. Tc.

All this talk about cushion, glide, and slickness has me thinking. Hmmm axle grease? Seriously though I can usually get a good lather and shave with just about any soap.

After reading all the posts I'm beginning to think glide / slickness is lubricity. Cushion perhaps is viscosity.

The last time I asked what cushion was, I was told "Cushion is bollocks."

Well at least I'm not feeling bad about not understanding the definitions of these words; there does not appear to be any single answer.

Yupper, slickness and glide can be generally considered as one by most. OTH cushion seems almost nebulous to define with some even saying it does not exist. Me, I just want a thick very slick yogurt type lather to be happy.

The reason I started this thread to begin with was to see if I could objectively measure them. Certainly I can measure lubricity and viscosity. Of course, with soaps you would need a constant such as water ratio.

I know it can be done, but what value it would have to others seems dubious.
