Thank you. I never thought of grating until I posted this question. I am going to give it a try.

I don't want to lose any scent so If grating works better that's what ill do....but the ole lady said I have to go get my own grater

Yes I would get a dedicated grater, the soap is difficult to clean and doesn't add any positive flavors to the kitchen
I did it with my first batch of SRD soap, but then decided that it would work well in the container it comes in from now on.

Sometime ago I bought SRD's Bulgarian Rose shaving soap. Although not a heavy scent, I would not want to jeopardize that scent by melting or grating. This is one of my favorite soaps.

Grating doesn't mess with the scent ,, some scent us lost in the melting process,

If you are grating pick up a microplane. Works much better than your average kitchen spud grater and you can use it on both glycerin based and french milled soaps.
