Original Barber's Products shaving cream disappointment
2 days ago in SOTD thread I posted my new findings along with my SOTD set.
I will repeat it here. Now I'm on vacation in France (ski resort) and in local pharmacy I found small shaving corner with different foams, aftershaves, l'Occitane products, and whole line of Original Barber's Products (pre-shave, oil, aftershave, etc.).
I decided and bought l'Occitane cade aftershave and OBP shaving cream.
Here is my picture from SOTD thread
Cream was sealed and I can't open it in shop and it was not cheap (25$), other OBP products also not cheap, for example aftershave cost more that 30$.
When I came home I found that cream not exactly a cream, but more like gel.
Today I give it a try. So it some semitransparent liquid, more gel than cream. It's absolutely useless to try to lather it with brush (in spite of how much water I add). It can be applied by hand, but lather disappear after few seconds. It still give a glide, but you can't see it. I hate transparent lather!
It smell almost exactly like Gillete gel to me.
I can't comment other OBP, as I haven't tried them. But disappointed that I haven't choosed l'Occitane shaving soap instead.

Thanked: 3226Yup, that is the trouble with a lot of the modern shave creams, they are the brushless variety. You just about have to read the directions on the tube to find out. Then again that is not much help if the directions are in a language you don't understand.

Try L'Occitane and let us know your thoughts. I used to love it, it was my favourite. Oh, juniper berries. But the last cake I bought dried my skin something bad and it didn't seem to have any slickness to it. I also noticed they have dropped the price of it a few dollars, so concluded they changed the recipe and removed all the good stuff. Maybe it will work better for you?
And I sympathise with you. After watching Phil or someone rave on about Lush shave gel I went and bought some of that. Oh my god, what the **** is that?!Last edited by Frankenstein; 03-08-2016 at 05:35 PM.
I love the smell of shaving cream in the morning!

I bought only cade aftershave and it is great as always. I find smell not as strong as when I first tried it few years ago. But it was long time ago, I can forgot real smell.
I tried cade soap the same time few years ago, it wasn't bad, by I can't finish it. It almost endless.
As I prefer cream to soap and already waiting for 2 different soaps to arrive I decided to buy cream this time.
What confuse me more that seller at pharmacy recommend not to take l'Occitane shaving cream, because it bad (which confirmed by many forum members). But recommended to take OBP.
And everything written on it in French, so basically I haven't understand a word.
Well, it was a lesson for me. Will give this "cream" to my wifeI'm not a native speaker, so if someone will correct me occasionally, over time you will understand me better

Usually when something is labeled with "original" or similar it's not "original" and winds up being a disappointment.

Thanked: 3226The Cade Rich Shaving Cream in the 200ml plastic tub is not too bad at all. It is also marked with Juniperous Oxycedrus. The Body Shops Maca Root cream and Prorasso in the blue tube are excellent and don't cost a fortune.
