Default Creating the ultimate SUPER cream = Santa Maria Novella + Proraso Green

    Folks,

I used to love Proraso Green for many years before I (recently) bought a tub of SNM, and have to report it is an exceptional cream (probably the best cream in the world?). The post shave skin feeling is phenomenal. Combining it with Proraso aftershave splash, my face feels smooth and conditioned for 24 hours after the shave. Awesome fragrance too. Consider this - I used to find shaving such a chore, but with SNM I look forward to shaving daily. BTW I use an exceptional brush to go with the cream - the Shavemac 944 D01.

If there is one area that SNM lacks a bit as compared to Proraso - it is the razor glide. With Proraso I could shave the same area multiple times even after the cream had washed off and it would be super smooth. Not so with SNM - since SNM washes off quickly.

So I thought - why not combine the best properties of both creams and create the ultimate SUPER cream. The one cream to beat them all. Incidentally both creams are made by the same manufacturer.

Tomorrow morning I will experiment with it. I will first load SNM as usual, and then twirl the brush couple of times in Proraso Green. Lets see how the experiment goes. Will post results tomorrow.

I have the stuff and to tell you the truth I'm not impressed with it. The scent is great but it's the only soap I have where I have to reload the brush during the shave and that is a soap killer to me. It almost seems like a semi brushless product. The lather just doesn't go very far.

    Gentlemen,

Santa Maria Novella is a good cream, especially in its aftershave qualities. Yet, I have never been impressed with its lather quality, either. For me, too, it takes several brush loads during the shave. In the past, I have mixed it with a good brush load of the Taylor of Old Bond Street "Natural" cream, which is unscented. I like Santa Maria Novella's scent. Overall, it is one of those creams that I will not replenish. You will find it in the Second Tier of my soaps and creams thread:

So I tried out the superlather combo today morning - SMN + Proraso Green and happy to report that it was brilliant. I used an old razor - a Gillete Mach 3 Turbo which has been used about 9 times, and noticed that the lather was more protective than when using either of the creams individually. Essentially the razor did not feel 9 shaves old and the post shave skin feeling was superb. Will continue with this experiment to see where it goes.

I,m happy for you finding something that you like, some never do, I am on the side that doesn't use it anymore because there is better out there, how many soaps have you used? I wouldn't stop trying others , I think you will find something even better. Good luck,, it's a very fun journey. I have used a lot of soaps, I think it's one of the aspects I like about shaving this way . Tc
