Creams and Soaps
Like most folks my age i started out with the soap that dad used. Mostly Colgate if folks can remember back then but for the last couple of years I've been using several different brands. SRD Sweet Patchouli Lavender and a lot of there samples. I ask a friend about the creams. I had never used creams and thought i would give them a try. He suggested Castle Forbes Lavender essential oil cream. I have to admit it's really nice. All this brings me to wonder if any one has developed a cream or soap with something for the little nicks or weepers that we some times get. It would be nice to have a lather that did both give a good shave and stopped those unavoidable little mishaps at the same time. I do wonder if something like this is even possible. Or maybe a post shave lotion that filled the bill. Just a thought and a question for those in the know.

Thanked: 3I'm new to all of this and started out with a cream. Since that's what I got in a kit for Christmas and looking into getting a few soaps to be able to tell the difference. Been reading on them both and best I can tell is that it's personal preference really. But want to try and see for myself

Castle Forbes lime scented shaving cream is for skin prone to niks and cuts, according to their label. I'm not sure what the basis for their claim is, and seriously doubt its validity.

Thanked: 4827The alum block after a shave and before the aftershave is suppose to give your skin an antiseptic and close up little nicks and weepers. Unfortunately for me it also move my skin red and angry with quite a bit of irritation. A lot of guys use it for their after shave skin care.

Castle Forbes claims it but what I have found in my couple years is more water in the lather does the trick. I like thick white lather but a few extra drizzles of water in the brush make the lather slicker and I am less prone to weepers.
That said. Castle Forbes Lime is fantastic as is Truefitt and Hill Ultimate Comfort."The best way to have a good idea is to have a lot of ideas." -Linus Pauling

I've heard a lot about the alum block but never have used or had one. The styptic pencil I do have and use once in awhile. My prep is hot towel lather then shave and when through shaving if theres nicks or weepers i use the pencil then very cold water. After that it's straight alcohol. then the post shave cream. I will look for the alum block and give it a try also the forbes lime cream. Back over the years i have always had trouble with weepers. Now that i'm on Blood thinners it seems more evident. Never a bloody mess but noticeable.

I've found, if you are using a thick lather as you reapply it over minor nicks it helps close them up. You may have to reapply it a few times but it always works for me. The brand doesn't matter it's the consistency of the lather that seems to do it.

Osma shaving soap with alum, I believe Phrank uses it , or has used it, supposed to tighten up the skin while your shaving so if it does have the alum I would say that's as close as your going to get with a soap that fixes little weepers as you shaving. Tc
by the way how are you feeling Roger, getting ready to ride yet?“ I,m getting the impression that everyone thinks I have TIME to fix their bikes”
