Thanked: 2284I hear you Mike. It turned nice and once sanded to 1000, I really could have left it with no finish. At that level of sanding it literally started to polish because of the natural oil. Same with the blackwood. I probably could have gone to a buffing wheel and got very nice results...... Maybe next time.

Thanked: 2284Thanks Steve. The techniques are no secret. You can learn them with a google search or even on youtube. All it takes is some know how with the order of operations, the right tools, and a little patience. Experience also helps when it comes to turning woods like African blackwood though. It can reject bad technique very, very quickly.

Another beautiful piece! I've done some lidded bowls, but usually have the reverse arrangement as far as having the "tenon" on the lid rather than on the bowl proper. I've found it easier, although not quite as nice looking as yours.

Andrew, just looked at the bowl thread again. I just want to say I have nothing but envy for your skills and I will show up on your doorstep with weapons galore to demand the relinquishing of said item.To insure said event happens with a little drama and stress as possible I will be showing up with the RCMP and clowns (so that your daughters are not traumatized by the RCMP's presence.)

Thanked: 2284Richard, I'm on a real lidded bowl kick right now. I'll just make you one for chits and gigs. I love seeing something nice come from basically nothing....... I also think I'm a bit of a like whore.... I admit it.
