Although I do not have extremely sensitive skin I have had burning sensations from various soaps. For me I have narrowed it down to oils or select ingredients. Cinnamon consistently irritates my skin, and any soap description that has the word "spice" in it translates into "burn my face off"

Although unscented is certainly a way to go I agree with the sample purchase to weed out possible offending ingredients or sensitivities.

Baume.be and Esbjerg are hard to go wrong with. I cannot recall seeing anyone having any sensitivity issues with either. And Baume.be was created by a gentleman with skin sensitivity issues.

You can get burn from fragrance components used in the soap, citrus scented soaps or soaps with patchouli can cause more irritation because of the nature of the fragrance used.
You can get irritation from ingredients that are used to make the soap, for example I can't use pure glycerin soaps or soaps with high glycerin content, or glycerin to slicken up lather if I wanted. To eliminate the scent part of the problem go for unscented if you can or something that has no citrus or patchouli in it.

I also cannot put anything on my face with cinnamon scents, and actually I think patchouli oil gets me...
I had this soap called dragons blood by love my skin... great scent but man it killed my poor stupid face.
I think I am experiencing a semi sensitivity to this shaver heaven vanilla bean... I think its the coffee scent oil stuff in there.

I also have problems putting scented soap on my face. I generally now use proraso white or bar soap for sensitive skin.

When you say bar soap, you mean like a puck, or just hard soap right?
Every try Love my skin? He sells on ebay.. .soaps are cheap and some of the best puck soaps I have ever used. He has a ton of scents, but if you email him, he will send you a long list of pretty much anything you can think of. He will even mix scents for you!

This soap might be worth a try, I've used it several times now and do like it and the fact it has minimal ingredients, mild scent, lathers really well and provides a nice glide.

Lavender is another EO that can be an irritant.

try different soaps if one doesn't work for you another one might work
