    Default Hooked on artisan soaps

I've been straight shaving for a few months now and DE for longer. I started as most with the mass market soaps( D R Harris, MWF, trumper) I appreciate the quality of them and the longevity of the triple milled but I'm finding the magic is in the artisan soaps. MWF is still high in my rotation but other than that CRSW, Stirlng, Blackship grooming and first Canadian have taken over my life, dealing with the makers has been a great experience across the board, the scents and quality of lathers have been awesome with all of them and I personally love supporting small business. I don't think I'll ever go back to the big makers. Honerable mention to dr. Jons, soapy bathman, barrister and Mann, Henri et Victoria. And by far my favorite after shave is REUZEL aftershave. For all the Canadian guys I've had great experiences dealing with Gentleman's blade out of BC and Canadian blade co. Out of Alberta. That's my opinion and shout out to the great companies in a great shaving community.

There are some very good artisan soaps available today. I too like CRSW, though I've used up the 2 jars I bought. Still have some B&M going. I really like Sampson's All Natural too. It's a close clone of MdC at an attractive price. My newest trial is Green Mountain Soap. I read a lot before buying so I haven't yet been disappointed. Just some I like better than others.

Quite a few of the artisanal soaps are excellent.
You may want to also consider Mike's, Mystic Water and Haslinger (not much in regards to scent, but an excellent soap).

I've been very disappointed by the Artisan offerings in the past .. so much so that I never use them anymore. But, maybe some are worth a try once again..

I love PetalPushers Fancies, but can no longer find them. I think Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements is the same thing....does anyone know for sure? Update, just found an article stating that they are the same company.

That's interesting, I'm a big fan of PAA soaps!

    Been there - done that...

But over time I realized that there are not that many truly outstanding soaps (artisan or otherwise) and I take now the announcements of the latest discoveries with a grain of salt.

In fact, the last "artisan soap" that I truly enjoyed discovering was Martin de Candre, which hardly qualifies as new.

Truth be told, sometimes I get more satisfaction from some cheap soap like Palmolive that get's the job done exceedingly well for a few pennies.

I am far from allowing some artisan soap to "take over my life", as you put it. I now rather sit on the fence, wait for the hype to subside and watch which artisan soap passes the test of time.

I guess it's safe to say that most of them won't.

So what I gather from that is that you think most all soaps are sub par and not much impresses you! Wow thanks for sharing the negetivity.

You're welcome; but you gather wrong, as I said that not that many soaps are outstanding, which is quite different from "sub par".

Now, "negetivity" is actually spelled "negativity" - and if it makes you happy following the latest trend, go for it.

It's just that for my part I rather wait and see, but I would never assume to tell others what to do.
