    Default Reviving old cream

I have three tubs of shaving cream, 2 T&H and 1 from the art of shaving, and they're about 4 or 5 years old. Is there a good way to bring this stuff back? One of them is almost rock hard & roughly half the volume it used to be. I'm debating whether I should just toss them & buy some new cream.

This morning I tried building a lather with the softer of the three and just couldn't get the cream-water ratio right. It was probably the saddest lather you've ever seen.

    Default Rehydration of cream

As long as the cream is kept tightly closed you shouldn't have an issue. Regarding the rock hard item I'd try to save it by adding distilled water to broken hunks of the cream In order to rehydrate the mix. Let me know how this works out for you. Good luck.

I'll try soaking a couple of em overnight & see if that helps. Luckily I have a few soap cakes so I don't really need em that badly.

I've got quite a few tubs of dried out cream... I just use them like hard soap, swirling a wet brush in the tub. No problems with the shave and the scent seems fine. Most of mine are Taylors, but I have a couple of others that work fine that way too.... in fact, I've never had to throw one out, or rehydrate for that matter.

Nice trick. I'll try using the third that way in the morning.

    Gentlemen,

Kaptain Zero is correct by using a wet brush to load the dried cream. Treat it as soap and you should be fine.

Sounds like I've basically got 5 soaps now. Gonna be a pretty long while before I use that up.

So the 2 tubs I added water seem to be coming back nicely. I was able to dig my finger in & stir them both up some to help with absorbtion. I'm afraid I might have added too much water to one of them but if that turns out to be the case I can just leave the lid off for a while to let it dry out.

I was going to try using the third tub like a soap like kz & Obie suggested but I forgot & used one of my regular soaps instead. The Gillette gave me some razor burns so I'm gonna just use the Parker for now. I'll worry about zeroing in on the right blades for my Gillette later.

Been a few days, one of the tubs came out perfect. Unfortunately it's my least favorite of the bunch. The other I added a little too much water, but that's still better than a rock that smells like sandalwood. Might just leave the lid off for a while & call it good.
