Thread: Anyone tried AoS Oud cream?

I dropped into my local Art of Shaving store for the first time a few weeks ago, mostly to get a small tube of sandalwood shave cream for travel purposes. They had recently started to carry Oud shaving cream and cologne. I wasn't familiar with Oud prior to that visit but have to say the scent is intriguing to me -- kind of mysterious.

Has anyone tried this yet?

I've enjoyed using AOS Oud cream, balm, and EdT. True oud is horrendously expensive, and most products have their own take on it with some kind of blend. People will be disappointed if they expect the scent to be similar to one of the expensive oud colognes. I happen to like the scent, and enjoy using AOS creams and balms.

I always hand lather a new brush so that I can get the feel of it for the next morning's shave. Well, I had a new brush, fortunately an inexpensive synthetic, and I used a sample amount of The Art of Shaving Oud shave cream to do the honors.

Oh, dear, dear, such a foul fragrance. Richard, my friend, unlike you, I could not tolerate the fragrance. Oh, the cream lathered well in my hand, but the unpleasant fragrance gave me a headache. Of course, you gentlemen know, the appreciation of fragrance is subjective, and this is only my opinion, but The Art of Shaving Oud belongs in The Third Tier of soaps and creams and only because of the fragrance. Otherwise it is an okay cream, as are all The Art of Shaving creams.

So I spent several shampooing sessions trying to get the smell out of the poor new brush. Finally I gave the brush a good hand lathering using the Wickham 1912 Russian Leather, which has an intoxicating fragrance. That might have done the trick, but I'll find out with tomorrow morning's humble shave.
