Stirling Iced Pineapple Soap and Aftershave
Aloha!
While it was available, I ordered the seasonal Iced Pineapple soap and aftershave. This is quite honestly the very first soap that smells good enough to eat. I dearly wish I had a Pineapple upside down cake that tasted as good as this soap smells.
I loaded a brush and used a shaving scuttle for whipping up some hot lather. As usual, the soap performed beautifully. Lots of thick, rich lather. And the matching aftershave is very nice. For some reason, Stirling aftershaves burn more than any others when first applied to my skin, but it's very short-lived and IMO will make me better with my razor as i believe the burn is coming mostly from trouble spots. I would bet if I used an alum block to check, the alum would sting in the same spots.
I do not detect much menthol in this batch, but just enough to sooth and cool. But the fragrance? Outstanding, combined with a beautiful shave.
Now I'm hungry for Pineapple Upside Down Cake!

I love the concept of Iced Pineapple, and I really liked the Stirling Margaritas in the Arctic sample I just finished. But if I'm expecting a total face-freeze (which I love! Godrej Menthol Mist is my favorite, but it appears to be discontinued) and just get "cool," I'll add a few drops of menthol to my lather bowl to get it right!
Oh, and I would probably try to drink that aftershave!

Agreed.
I reviewed another of Stirling's seasonal fragrances last week, the Grapefruit with Menthol. This to me has more of a cool blast and the menthol was much more noticable than with the Pineapple. And I really do like the grapefruit soap and aftershave scent as well. It's a toss-up, but the Grapefruit with Menthol wins if you are looking for a "Cool" menthol shave. So far, SWMBO likes the Pineapple fragrance a little better. Although she's also a fan of the Grapefruit.

I talked to Rod and his wife at the St. Louis Wet Shavers' Meet earlier this month. It is important to note that they vary the amount of menthol in each fragrance. At the time they were talking about creating a scale to better inform potential purchasers how much menthol should be expected from one variety to the next. I had a sniff of the Iced Pineapple while I was there but it was a bit sweeter than I tend to prefer when it comes to shave soaps so I decided to give it a pass.
I would like to say that Rod and Mandy Lovan are absolutely great folks and I hope their dinner that night was good since I suggested a place near where they were staying.

I love their goofy product descriptions-they sound like a cool couple. By the way, you Stirling fans should try Port au Prince if they ever do a run of it again. It's a haitian vetiver that I got in a sample some time back. It had an incredible scent combined with cushion, glide, and that moisturizing feeling that the best soaps can leave for hours.

The descriptions are great! I had the chance to tell Rod that I was the one of probably about three guys who got the reference in the Electric Sheep description, a highlight of my conversation with him.
Oh, for those of you who have a significant other of the female persuasion that might be interested in some of the Stirling products, I was part of an interesting conversation with Mandy. She was complaining that when she finds reviews of their women's line the few people who mention it complain that the fragrance offerings are a bit juvenile. That didn't annoy Mandy so much as that the women doing the complaining didn't offer any real feedback on what they might like to see offered. That said, if one of the women in your life has some thoughts on the matter you just might ask her to drop Mandy an email and tell her that the guys in St. Louis are trying to pass the word and help her out!Last edited by GreenRipper; 07-01-2017 at 03:11 AM.
