Thanked: 16The problem with canned goo....
I've been converted onto soaps and creams but I couldn't resist buying a very expensive (£20 ~$40) can of Elemis foaming gel (pressurised can) which I saw in a shave shop a couple of days ago. I must say, the product is incredibly thick and thankfully considering the price, a little does go a very long way (a pea size amount was enough to cover my face). The gel itself left a lovely cool feeling on the skin like Proraso and the foam it creates is also incredibly slick, far slicker than any lathers I've ever made from soap or cream. However, like all other foams it lacks the one key ingredient which makes any shave: water! In fact, any contact with water, completely destroys the foam on the face so it's best to keep it as dry as possible. The end result being that the gel itself is incredibly thick but, even after sitting on the face for 5 minutes, does nothing to prepare the beard. I'm sure it's fine with a M3 razor but two strokes from the straight was uncomfortable enough to make me wash it off and relather up with some nice Trumpers lime (and plenty of water!).
Does anyone here shave with a straight/DE and canned stuff?

Thanked: 0I hope the Mods are watching this thread carefully!! Anyone admitting to repeated Goo Can use should be banned (hunted down, and flogged mercilessly with a Zeepk strop until it is ... well, I was going to say until it was not fit to strop a straight, but the dude might never get hit ...let's just say 100 lashes!!
that's all I have time for. I have to get these breadfruit plants to the West Indies.)

Thanked: 1Some girl I know worked in a cosmetic section, so I bought some shaving cream from her, canned. I use it on occasion, just because it was overpriced as hell.
I enjoy the mug and brush too much.

Thanked: 16Have you guys even read my post through? I say by the end that despite the heavy pricetag and nice smells, it's still canned goo and gives a terrible shave. I'm a hero, as it were, sacrificing my face and integrity for the good of testing premium shaving products.

Many heroes are unappreciated in their time.
I suspect some of our members didn't get past the subject line before sentencing you to strop flaying.
There are a few members who have had decent results shaving with canned products, including one or two who are in Iraq and don't have access to the same luxuries we do... Seeing as my beard is of the titanium alloy variety, I don't really care to try it out for myself...
Glad to hear someone is willing to experiment, though. It's fun to note that most of the time we "experiment" by straying from the straight and narrow, we realize why the recommended approaches are recommended.
