I do need to find a nice bowl tho. This is what I am going to use for now. Just going to polyurethane the hell out of the inside first.

Get yourself a nice scuttle that holds plenty of water. keeping a lather nice and warm without having to worry about getting through your shave quickly makes me a better shaver to be honest.

Can't tell from the photo what kind of knots are in the brushes. They are either boar or badger knots. Most second hand brushes I have seen have been boar brushes as they were the most common being cheaper than badger.

Almost forgot, you really don't need a bowl to make lather with if you face lather.

Here are 2 ways to face lather.

Just had to look it up. I like it and am definitely going to be searching for one.

If you go looking for a scuttle be aware there are two types, vintage a current new ones. They function differently. The new current ones are designed to help keep your lather warm the vintage ones were not.

Ahhhh alright. And I was trying to brainstorm some way of making one. But I'm not into much metal fab yet and certainly not ceramic pottery and that seems about the only 2 ways to accomplish it with the intended purpose. So I think i'll be on the hunt for one.

They seem to be about a $50 range and up on etsy

You could just get a bowl from the Thrift Store for a buck or your kitchen cupboard. Look for one about 5 inches wide and 4 inches deep, give or take, to make you lather in and place it in the hot water in your sink. the water surrounding the bowl should keep your lather warm.

There is a lot of fancy BS to get carried away with in this hobby that is not of absolute necessity to get a smooth comfortable and close shave. I never bowl lathered for 40 years till I got on the forums. Just had to buy a modern scuttle, seemed like that was the thing to do. It is now gathering dust and I am back to face lathering. There is a difference between luxury and what is needed to get a good shave.

Oh I hear ya there. I know it's just for the aesthetics and nostalgia of it.. and yea maybe a bowl in a bowl if I can find ones that fit nicely would work just fine. I'm just all about looks eh. I love to custom make and match what I can. I want to eventually have a nice little compact display stand to hold my current razor of choice, bowl, brush, and soap all together in one nice little appealing display for in the bathroom.

I use a cereal bowl from Target. I jam all of the soap in the bottom and build my lather right on top. It makes lathering a snap. You just add some water and work the brush over it until you have the right consistency.
