How come no one mentions crown shave cream. I can imagine anything more that works up into a better lather or is more luxiourius

According to a product description, this is a glycerin based cream. It is designed to be used without a brush, but as with many brushless creams, it can be used with a brush as well. Brushless creams do not get a lot of publicity on this forum, even though some work well.

It's really not costly. I just tip the very edge of the brush in it and it works up quickly into an incredible thick, rich lather. One dip is enough for at least three passes.

To piggyback on what RayClem said, their products aren't really geared towards what I'll call "traditional wet shaving". I categorize them into the sort of "cool guy" products that focus on beard oils over shaving cream.

Now, I'm sure they don't categorize themselves that way... But I've never been impressed with their shaving products. Shaving cream included.
That said, they make a really nice styling pomade that has an awesome fresh scent that I really do like! I wish it had longer legs, but it's great for whipping the hair into shape for a night out or something.

I think the intent was to state that its ingredients are more similar to most brushless creams than what we typically see for dedicated brush creams... It was an answer to the OP's question. And probably the correct answer tbh

Here is the description and ingredient list from the Crown web site:

If you will note, the ingredients do not include any sodium or potassium hydroxide; tallowate, etc. Thus, this is not a soap based product. While it can be used with a brush, it can also be used brushless, "massaged onto skin with fingers". That does not mean it is not a good product. It just means that it is not a traditional shaving soap/cream. If it works well for you, by all means, continue using it.
