Purely practical
Nothing earth shattering here as I’m sure many alternatives have been featured along this line. But I just got some sticks in and was filling my bowls and figured I’d pass it along.
For many years now I’ve been using these glass resealable 1cup bowls from Anchor Hocking. They come packed 4 to a set and when I got them they were under $10.00 but I think they can be had for around $13-14.00.
I simply use a knife and slice up the sticks and depending on the stick just press the soap in place. To get harder sticks to settle in place I slice them up and then microwave the entire bowl in short bursts until I can easily press them smooth in the bowl. The Palmolive one is 2 full sticks for reference. In the case of a puck they are nearly the proper size for the bowl. Slice a little off the top and pack it into the gap around the perimeter to fill it out.
And to I.D. The soaps I cut out the label and double sided tape keeps them in place.
These won’t win any Wows in a shave of the day photo but it’s a simple stackable solution for some soaps.Last edited by mycarver; 02-23-2018 at 08:09 PM.

Love to see practical solutions that help those of us on tight budgets. Lets hear more practical tips from everyone.

I pretty much do the same as I'd rather start my lather from a bowl rather than use the stick. The stackable containers I use are PET jars from Maggard's--I like them because they are well made, and are flat with a wide mouth for my larger brushes. I also use a cheese grater to grate the sticks, rather than microwave them. Mike's sells bars of soap which are usually soft enough to press into a jar. Some soaps that I like come in very small pucks, e.g. Klar Seifen and Haslinger, which I'll also grate into larger jars as they are hard soaps.

I have been using these types of 1-cup containers for the past seven years and they work, extremely well. However, I prefer the lid of the Pyrex ones as they create a better seal and fit.

Thanked: 3225Been using those 1 cup bowls for a few years also. I have both Anchor Hocking and Pyrex types. I would agree with Celestino that the Pyrex lids do seem to seal better. I do not slice my shave sticks to get them in the bowls but use a cheese grater for that purpose. Love shave sticks for travel but at home I prefer my soap to be in a bowl.
