AOS Sandalwood scent?
About a decade or so ago I bought myself a tub of the AoS Sandalwood, it was the best smelling thing I've ever smelled in a shaving cream.
Living in Europe I seem to have a very hard time obtaining that cream locally, or any of the AoS ilne, so I was wondering if there's anything similar scent wise from other brands?
I'm a big fan of the D.R. Harris creams, they always perform like a champ and been rocking their lavender for a decade on pretty much a daily basis.
- I wonder how the D.R. Harris Sandalwood compares
and since I seem to like the woodsy type scents, I read about their Windsor and Marlborough cream, IIRC, that also have those kind of woodsy scents. Anyone that can shed some light into these scents? I love DRH cream, so I'm inclined to stick with the brand
- I also heard good things about the Crabtree & Evelyn Sandalwood
- Maybe TOBS Sandalwood
Other suggestions or feedback always welcomeLast edited by TristanLudlow; 04-08-2018 at 11:56 AM.

Personally I Despise AOS soaps and creams, they are overpriced for what they are, plus it's a store that really hasn't helped any one who walks in. Most of the employees haven't got a clue about wet shaving. Having said this, their Sandalwood shaving cream is the best smelling Sandalwood I've ever used. My wife bought it for me in my beginning in straights. I've been wet shaving for decades but never used anything like it. The smell is so good, that I still break it out once in a while. Tc

Gentlemen,
I must agree with you on the intoxicating sandalwood fragrance in the Art of Shaving cream. Of course, I love the sandalwood fragrance in general, but finding an exceptionally pleasing one in the various brands of soaps and creams is a gamble. The one from the Art of Shaving, however, delivers in every way. Good stuff.

Thanked: 603I've never used the AoS Sandalwood shaving cream, nor those from TOBS or GFT or DRH, but I do own a tub of Cyril R. Salter Indian Sandalwood (don't much care for it, though), so I don't really have a dog in this race. I do, however, own a tub of QED Sandalwood shaving soap and a more-than-half-full-bottle of Floris Sandalwood EDT, and what I know is this: On any given day, an EO-based product will be clearly superior to an equivalent FO-based product. From my experience, and that of others, it's the first thing I'd check in any product where fragrance is among the top 3 or 4 criteria.
You can have everything, and still not have enough.
I'd give it all up, for just a little more.

Come to think of it, every AoS store I have ever been in or walked by has a guy maning the store who has a full beard.Brandon- horses have the temperament of a house cat...a 1,200 pound, frightened cat, with a brain the size of a piece of bubble gum.

Thanked: 38Crabtree and Evelyn has a really good smelling Sandalwood but the soap itself is an under performer. Not much cusion and by the time you hit your third pass the soap looses its density. I tried shredding it and repacking, which helped a bit, but this puck ended up as hand soap.

Personally, I find Jabonman/Eufros Sandolo the best sandalwood scent I have ever tried. Simply a superb scent and since you are in Europe, you can easily acquire it as he is in Spain.
Good luck.Laughter, Love, & Shaving

Thanked: 171I own both, but have a preference for D.R. Harris products.
Their sandalwood soap is excellent, but like all D.R. Harris shaving soaps the scent is subdued, more so than the AOS soap.
Years ago, I also bought Crabtree & Evelyn products, including sandalwood shaving soap, but found them only average and their take on sandalwood scent was quite different from AOS and D.R. Harris.

Well, you know the story.
AOS was started by a woman who concocted a preparation for her husband who had issues with shaving formulations. It was so good he started the company and it morphed into a high end mall based store more interested in retail sales than anything else. To make matters worse it's owned by P&G these days so you know what to expect.
I agree their Sandalwood is well formulated. No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero
