Thanked: 1Stirling soap co.
I’ve been using shave soaps from Stirling Soap Co with a safety razor for over a year now. I love their scents and the lather I get is great. I just upped my products by them and bought a preshave soap, AS and a post shave balm. The shave was better than ever. I applied the AS then the balm. I had never used both before is that how you are supposed to do it?

I've always thought of the A/S and Balm as totally separate products. I use one or the other depending on how my skin feels after the shave. But I'd bet many use both.

Thanked: 1Thanks, I bought both and didn't think about the practicality until I was shaving and deciding which to use. I've used both balms and AS before but never together.

I guess if you were to use both, that would be the way. But I think its more one or the other. I too like Sterling. They have some great scents.
It's just Sharpening, right?

First, I'm a big fan of Stirling.
Regarding the topic. I use both, though in a slightly different manner. I like aftershave that is pretty much alcohol and scent - such as Clubman, etc... Most of the current artisans put witch hazel in the AS, which my skin doesn't like.
I follow that with non-scented shave balm that I make myself.
I see no reason that you can't use both from Stirling if they are the same scent.

Thanked: 60I use both. The AS is for scent and to disinfect. The balm to moisturize and heal.

I tend to use alcohol-based aftershaves in the humid summer months and balms in the dry winter months.

Thanked: 17Bought myself some Stirling shave soaps for xmas, black cherry and glacial lemon.
Tried the lemon tonight. Love the smell, lemony but not overpowering, smells clean and crisp. Great lathering with little product. Great lubricity, staying power.
Best part was the menthol, again not overpowering but gives a great clean refreshing feeling. Never used a mentholated shave soap, not sure who all makes them, but this is a winner.

Thanked: 17While I'm at it, generally speaking, who else would rather pay less for smaller tubs of shave soap? I mean most of these are around 6oz and due to wanting to try alot of soaps and enjoy variety I feel like I'll never use them up. I'd rather pay half for half size tubs, get more variety, and I still probably will never use them up.

Try Stirling Soap Samples. You get a good amount. Not just a pinch. And you can choose whatever you want to sample. At least that's how it was a couple years ago.
I tried the Glacial Lemon. Loved the scent but the Menthol. Its hard to shave when your eyes are watering. Menthol and I don't get along. Lots of makers of soap do a menthol. Just check around. Stirling is good stuff. Order one of everything in a sample size. You won't need to buy any more soap for a couple years. It's just Sharpening, right?
