Default Getting Back To Other Soaps

It seems lately my soap and cream rotation has been MCD and Castle Forbes and Trumper Coconut Creams. But the last few days I’ve enjoyed Tabac it’s one of my favorites, LOoccitane or Cade, Harris, And Men’s Soap. I enjoy all of them. As nice a product as MCD is I’m not sure I’ll order more in the future. I need to economize a bit and stick with much more affordable products. Men’s Soap seems to be as good as Harris or TOBS. Tabac and Cade at top of my MCD - Castle Forbes not included list.

It don't have to be expensive to be good! I love Tabac! It is a great performer and a nice scent!

It doesn't take much of the MDC to make enough lather for a full shave. I can see the two jars I have lasting 1.5 years as I use other too. But if you consider how long it lasts and how little is needed, and the amount of soap you get in a jar compared to other soaps, I think its worth a lot more than other soaps. So the cost is about the same or better than lots of soaps. Now you can't compare it to getting a puck for around 10 bucks, but I feel it is well worth the cost with how long it lasts. JMO.

MDC Rules! I will never be without.

I used, "Cella" last night in the little Red tub....a classic old school soap, didn't like it the one and only time I used it, but giving a lot of old soaps a retry, and gotta say, the "Cella" was quite nice, lather bomb, great on the face afterwards, again, some of these soaps that have been around for decades, obviously there's a reason they have such staying power....great soap, give it a try as well.

the cost per shave with MDC is comparable to most mid priced soaps, it goes a long way. I get a year out of every day shaving with it . I got 6 months out of MWF so there it is. but cost is really not worth mentioning in soaps. its the least expensive item in the shaving corral. so you spend 65$ on a soap that lasts a year, or 30$ twice a year. so if your money is that tight then you need to get Arko stick and sell your Thaters and go back to a VDH 3$ brush, and 1 cheap vintage razor but hey were saving money Tc

I am going back to others as I have learned the advantage of loading the brush and letting it sit, bristles down, in a bit of warm water in a mug. Things that don't immediately 'pop' like MDC benefit greatly from this. JMO.

I love a number of the perennial stalwarts that have been mentioned here. I literally just shaved with Wholly Kaw King of Oud, one of my all-time faves, but also still love MWF. And though it's been too long, I remember how much I have loved my various samples of Castle Forbes.

As for MdC, I think it may have magical regenerating properties or something. TC (who I think secretly works for MdC and not actually in the oil patch) sent me a sample of the original formula last summer I believe, and I'm still shaving with it. It's a fantastic, skin nourishing lather bomb, for sure, and no doubt is economical in the long run than people realize. I am going to break down and buy some yet (or ask Santa (Amazon) for it). Trouble is, should I get the Fougere, Rose, Lavender (and wasn't there a vetiver special run?)? I'm sure I would love any of them.

I keep saying that I'm going to whittle my soap and cream collection down, and then I black out in front of the computer or something, and a bunch more shows up at my house (I think it's the Ambien).

Original is the Lavender.....it's superb as you know.

The Fougere is my next favourite of theirs, sometimes I go back and forth between which is the best.

The Rose, Vetyver, Argumes are all epic MdC scents as well....the Rose is one of the nicest I've ever tried.

If you want big bang for the buck, Beauty at Creightons is your friend. Their remaining products deliver unparalleled value for money. Unless you can find Warz or Arko somewhere at realistic prices.

As for MdC, I've never been a fan. It's a nice soap, but drying. The price/performance ratio is simply not good enough to sensibly compete with other high end products available (such as La Savonniere du Moulin or the late Savonnerie du Bon Berger).

Robin-It sounds like you have access to some great products that might be a challenge to find on this side of the pond. My wife has relatives and friends all over Germany. Next time we go I might have to try to find some of these. We've toured northern Germany (Bremen to Berlin, Pottsdam, etc.). We want to go to Bavaria next time; I guess that's more down your way.
