That's great news! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the tip, Steve. I received their mail notification yesterday. It's about time Martin de Candre made its site friendlier to us pilgrim who don't read French. Now, should I order more soaps or not? Well, why not? I figure I'll have enough soaps and creams to last me till 2075. A fellow just can't be sure . . .
It goes on my casket when I leave this world so my n case where I go they don’t have MDC. Yes so why not order more. Tc
I couldn’t resist and got the Citrus showing up today. Looking forward to tomorrow’s shave!
This top tier shave soap is now available through Top of the Chain in Canada. He has a limited inventory, but it’s nice to know I don’t have to pay import duties and wait forever when I order it from France or the U.S.
Here’s the link:

Thanks.
Still, C$89.99 for for 200g shaving soap is a bit steep, isn’t it?
A few months ago, I was ready to re-order, but when I noticed MdC prices and - most of all - shipping costs for an order that I wanted to have sent to a hotel in the EU, I changed my mind and went with Meissner Tremonia instead.
MdC is a good soap without doubt, but is it good enough to justify C$89.99 plus tax?
B.
I dunno....The Canadian dollar and the duties aside, I would buy it at that price.
Mine has lasted years and years and still more than half there..
What a value!
Gotta have it anyway?
ive never paid more than 60$ with shipping a jar. and by the way M&T is tthe same price there partner,, its a smaller jar
FYI current exchange rates make that about $68 US including shipping.
If you’re in the EU you’ll be paying VAT, 17% I believe, which will more than offset international shipping on a medium to large order. And if you do a larger order the international shipping is discounted at least some.
Cheers, Steve
Gents. Check this site out. Free shipping from UK. Prices are with VAT but once you put your US address they take it out. Fougere was 37GBP (47USD shipped). I think that's a pretty good deal. Mine is on it's way to Minnesota.

Not sure where you got the “more than offset” from.
Having done an actual comparison, the costs for my purchase incl. shipping would have been:
- to a destination in Europe: €112.04 incl. the 20% (not 17% as you stated) French VAT applicable within the EU,
- to British Columbia: €119.97,
- to Washington State: €118.26.
The last two figures do not include applicable import duties or processing fees for Customs.

I figure it is like sitting and talking about the price of gasoline....
Either way, you got to buy it.
Get your best deal. Conserve it, enjoy it. Take a little trip.
YMMV
no it doesnt cost that in washington state USA. i,m in Tn but its the same to all of us, so not real sure where you got your numbers, check that adding machine. ive been buying MDC for 4 years and in the states he ships it for around 68$, i, myself always get it for around 60. cause i get 2 jars at a time so the shipping is spread out over 2 jars.
118 euros or dollars, not accurate.last order was 3 months ago, never have been charged any import or custom fees. now that is the real numbers
I’m in TN also and I’d love to sell him some soap! /H
Cheers, Steve
No need to check my calculator, as Martin de Candre did the three quotes (incl. shipping) for me for 2 x “SHAVING SOAP - VÉTYVER - LIMITED EDITION”, which is a more expensive soap than the regular stuff. (2 x 200 g Fougere to the US would be €101.29.)
I did however add the applicable taxes (GST and PST for Canada, and local sales tax for Lynnwood, WA) from the official websites, but no import duties, none of which you had to pay if the parcel would get waved through, which in Canada would be highly unlikely as all imported goods above C$20 are taxable.

If it’s shipped via United States Postal Service to a US address, there will be no customs, duty, or tax of any kind for almost all personally used items - the laws are amazingly lenient. Alcohol may be an exception above 1L, and they will take your French cheese and saucisson. I’ve never paid any fees whatever for any international shipments, the US fortunately does not charge for most anything used personally.
Up to 800 USD things get processed de minims - no tax. That's the current law.
Above 800 it depends. USPS and CBP will usually let things sail through up to 2000 USD ands sometimes even a bit higher. Like you said - never paid a single cent in taxes or import duties with USPS.
UPS/Fedex etc process the customs paperwork themselves. They do the paperwork and submit it CBP so sometimes you can get hit with a tax if you are over 800 and they decide they want to collect. In that situation it seems to me it's up to the shipper or whoever does the paperwork. Once I had to pay on a 1200USD package shipped via DHL.
And if you watch the BSTs, you can score. I bought an original and fougere, unused in glass jars for $42.50 each delivered. The seller said that they had been used a couple of times but they have not - the little bits that stick to the lid liner are there and sharp edged, and no brush marks etc. They’re new.
Cheers, Steve
I finally bit the bullet and bought my first jar of MdC - the fougere.
I had always wondered about the hype, but now I get the enthusiasm for this stuff. Just whipped my big Yaqi synthetic brush around the jar a few times and had enough lather for at least 4 passes. Nice lasting lather. Slick and protective. SKin felt great afterwards and the scent, while very pleasant, was not overpowering.
It should last me a long time and will go into my regular rotation with Baume.be, TOBS Sandalwood, Panna Crema Nero and Cyril Salter sandalwood.
I’m a believer.
I just received my jar of original. I’m still working on the sample Mark sent me. It was the size of a grape, I’ve had 6 shaves from it and will probably get 3-5 more. I had always heard of how long a jar may last but had trouble believing it. According to this sample I may have a 2 year supply of mdc in this one jar, assuming I use it exclusively.
I actually measured a tub once, lol. I was using a Simpsons Chubby 1 in Super Badger (it’s a soap hog for its size) and I used 1.4g per shave. I used MdC 5-7 times per week, and a jar lasted me 9 months.
A hard, concentrated soap will use 0.5g/shave, and croap (or very soluble soap, as MdC is) 1 - 1.5g per shave.
With a more modest brush, it should last longer. And almost everyone seems to overload the brush to begin with.
Cheers, Steve
My first shave with it I could of done what seemed like infinite passes. I’m a two pass shaver so your 9 months would likely be 18 for me, my brush loads pretty quick too.
Agreed, I’ve loaded less and less each time and it’s still too much. I thought mdc was all hype before I tried it. It’s the easiest soap I’ve dealt with and probably top two or three in overall performance that I’ve tried.
MDC is one of the famous soaps that I've never tried. I'm going to try to beg a sample off of someone at the Texas meet.:)
Tom sends me a chunk from his brain bowl getting me hooked on MdC after a handful of shaves. Then I meet John who's skin has sensitivity with certain soap ingredients, so I passed the barely dented sample his way which eventually lead to his purchase.
Now John offers to bring some samples of MdC down to TX to further infect you fellas with Tom certainly not interfering. This is how the MdC virus extends its hold on unsuspecting wet shavers....
You have been warned fellas!
:p
Agree. It's addictive. After I tried the fougere I immediately got the vetiver as well.
Money well spent.
What i enjoy the most about MDC besides the quality of the soap is the fact that it doesnt take much. I keep cutting back on the amount used and i still end up with more lather than needed left in the bowl. And I bet ive given away more than ive used. I bought 2 jars over a year ago and i see it lasting a couple more years. But i do like to use other soaps. Just MDC always works exactly like the way a shave soap should.
I haven't tried it yet but my wife smelled it and says it reminds her of Noxema.
Huge fan of MdC. I didn't however enjoy the scent of Argumes, far too much of a citronella note to my liking. I also found the newer; Rose and Vetyver to be of a softer consistency than the Original and Fougere. A little goes a long way with MdC.
Gentlemen,
The Martin de Candre original scent is still my favorite. I liked it from the first lather some years ago. My two newest scents, rose and Fougere, don't impress me, although they're still acceptable. I am getting used to the scents, I might add, but when gone, they will stay so. The original scent, though, by now is carved into the shave den.
