    Default Arko, again

Just a short post to say I decided to return to the roots of my SR shaving this morning using the first SR I ever bought (a Hoffritz 5/8 purchased from one of their mall knife shops in about 1982), and Arko to lather with a boar brush.

I had forgotten how easy it is to whip up a perfect lather with Arko. That shaving bowl is about 1.5 inches deep and all I did to build that lather was rub the stick on the nubs in the bottom of it and whip away! It was the 2 pass shave I wish for every day!!

Given that I have a few unopened sticks left, I'm going to go to it more often as part of my routine.

Yup, I don't care about the "smells like a urinal puck" comments at all. It just plain works extremely well as a shave soap for me. I roll it like putty in my hands and form it into a bowl for home use and have a stick for travel. The strength of the lemony scent dissipates over time too when left uncovered. It's one soap I will never be without.

You guys got me thinking about Arko.

Haven't used it in ages and kinda miss it.

I always liked it's performance and grew to like the smell.

The stuff lathers like putting water on an Alka-Seltzer...Boom!

Gonna have to get me some again.

I have read many posts about Top Tier soaps.

I don't remember seeing a Workhorse Soap thread.

Arko would make a good showing there.

Arko definitely is a good workhorse. Do we have a workhorse soap thread?

If not we should start one.

Maybe not expensive, fancy and fast like a thoroughbred. But plods along, reliably doing it's job everyday and is dependable.

Arko is my usual shave soap, I sprinkle other ones in every so often but arko hits many points for me: value, performance, smell, conditioning, ease, historical longevity, etc.

I have said before Arko is hard to beat based on performance and price.
My question is why don't I use it more often.

The Swiss Miss uses Arko routinely and also Mitchel Wool Fat Bath soap.
