    Question New Beard Softening Product

Has anyone tried Clarins "Skin Difference"? It's a new product designed to be applied to the skin at night. It is then claimed to penetrate hair follicles overnight to soften the entire length of each whisker in preparation for the next morning's shave. It's also claimed to remove dead surface cells, and to moisturise. It costs GBP26 (I live in England) and I'd like to know if anyone's tried it, and their opinion, before spending this amount of money

    I have it.
It feels like putting putting grease from a deep fryer on my face. Very oily feel.
I think it oils up your skin to lubricate you moreso than softening your beard. Used it three times, I didn't notice the difference and I'm not sure it is worth the feeling one must endure for the night. I'm going to give it a shot again soon, but thus far I've gotten more our of just applying proraso preshave and that's not really saying too much. I've yet to beat keeping a moist lather on my face.

edit: Btw I got a better result applying it a couple hours before shaving on one occasion, as it just occurs to me, but I still don't care for it.

I don't need beard softening product, I need razor hardening one...

Hm, I also saw this in the store. I almost never shave in the morning - mostly at night, sometimes afternoon - so this doesn't seem like a good product for me.

I don't even apply conditioner most of the time, and this seemed to work pretty well...

    Cheers

Sounds like marketing pap to me.

Sorry about the delay in replying - my wife injured her back, and I've been a full time nurse/chef/housemaid for the past few days. A woman's work is never done...

Thanks for the offer of the samples, FJ! I live in England, so it's a bit far to ship them, and my wife has told me that she can get me some at the department store where she works when she returns to work.

It's certainly expensive, but Clarins have an excellent reputation; it could still be pap/crap though.

Perhaps the best bet is to try the other option - but should it be used oil from the fryer, or fresh?

In my experience any skin cream applied shortly before shaving will do.

I sometimes use shampoo with conditioner on my beard while showering, and it seems to help a bit.
