Thanked: 0proraso, tabac, and mitchell
were proraso, tabac, and mitchell shave soaps meant to be used outside the shower primarily or could they be used while in the shower like gillette shave foam or gel? were these shave soaps made primarily for professional barbers or could amateurs use them while in the shower? i know that gillette foam and gel can be used while in the shower but not sure about proraso and these other shave soaps? rsvp

Thanked: 603Yes, to all of them; that is, I've used other shaving soaps inside the shower, but only a few times. Quite honestly, although I can "shave blind" (i.e., without using a mirror), doing so is sufficiently unnerving, without adding to that feeling by placing myself in an all-around wet environment -- slippery fingers holding a by-definition "razor sharp" straight razor is not a macho experience that I need to repeat (and I feel the fool for having done so, even once). Safety razors are another story, but also a risky business.
In the interest of full disclosure, for some strange and unknown reason, when I read the title of your post, my mind registered "prozac, tabac, and mitchell"; the first two rhyme quite nicely, but I immediately wondered what Martha Mitchell had to do with it.
Be careful about mixing shaving with showering; most of us will tell you that the first ought to follow the second... geographically, as well as in order.
Smooth shaving! You can have everything, and still not have enough.
I'd give it all up, for just a little more.

Thanked: 3226I know people shave in the shower but I never have in 66 years on this earth. That is for all the reasons mentioned in the previous post. Do yourself a favour and keep the two separate.

Straight razors were not made for use in the shower.
You will have severe rust at the pivot
If you drop a SR on a tile shower floor you can probably miss the scales goodbye along with exposed body parts. If you don't care where you are, you are not lost.

I never have and never will use a straight razor (or DE / SE) in the shower. Using a straight razor in the shower is just asking for trouble in numerous ways. But that's just me. Each to their own I s'pose.

Of course if you be in line for a sex change operation shaving in the shower could save you some money (if you know what I mean).

I used to use a safety razor in the shower to shave my head with no ill-effects.

Straight shave in the shower? No thanks. I use a DE in the shower all the time. Switched to "natural" deodorant with no aluminum years ago and , as it turns out, it works better if you actually get it on the skin. So, I shave the pits to get better performance out of the deodorant.
