The new Chiseled Face base is called Slick Tallow.
Where the key word is lubrication. (Slick)

This high lubrication is obtained with:
• Glycerin in first position
• Aloe Barbadensis, more than water
• White Kaolin (Clay) in high position

To improve it all, a nice handful of Silk Proteins and Lanolin.
Allantoin benefits the inflamed skin.
The North American Red Elm supports the previous one, and adds astringent and healing functions.

At the moment, there're three scents:

• Ghost Town Barber
  Bergamot, Basil Leaf, White Patchouli, Oakmoss, Texas Cedar, Leather, Smoke, Gunpowder
• Midnight Stag
  Russian Leather, Motor Oil, Hoppes #9, Birch Tar, Oakmoss, Gasoline, Smoke, Cedar, Cade, Bergamot, Vanilla
• Sherlock
  Warm Tobacco, Toasted Caramel, Black Pepper, Moist Dirt, Leather, Moss, Mandarin, Honey, Rose

As you can see, the differences are many between the new Slick Tallow base and the previous Tallow base.
It's not just a percentage change in Glycerin and Silk Powder.
The formulation has totally changed.
With the addition of lubricating and decongestant components.
As well as Lanoline, and the replacement with a more prized type of Aloe.
So I'm not too sorry about the loss of noble fats like Mango and Avocado.
Maybe I would have preferred the fragrance a little higher, since in the new version it seems quite less full-bodied.
Also the increase in complexity and therefore time as well as the cost of the components, I believe is correctly expressed in the +20% price.

I was one of the early testers in the development of this new formula; but I was not involved in later phases.
All of the tests formulations I evaluated were extremely slick, but I considered only one of them to be elite on all aspects of my criteria.
There have been numerous tweaks to the formula since I was last involved in the process.
I am hoping that the final formulation will superb in every aspect.


Although I am quite interested in evaluating the final formulation to see how it compares to the elite soaps in my collection, I am not interested in the three scents currently available. Thus, I will wait until other scents are released.

I got a Sample of the Cedar and spice from Chiseled Face and tried it this evening. At first the Cedar scent was a bit overwhelming but not as much as "Christmas Eve" by Sterling. That one was too much even for me! After lathering I found the spice scents to start coming thru and I found it a very nice mix of a few scents. I had put a little larger than the usual amount in my testing cup and loaded my badger brush. What I ended up with was enough for 3 full 3 pass shaves when I was done making lather. This stuff just made lather easy and wouldn't stop.

I had a great shave and enjoyed the scent and sickness during the shave and when rinsing. My skin feels nice. I had tried Ghost town Barber yesterday and it seems too much in scent. I felt like it was just overpowering of too many things. But after the shave was done it still left a great feel. The scent was just not to my liking. Maybe it will settle down with time.

I have two more Chiseled Face samples to try and I'm looking forward to it. It is a soft soap but I'm very happy with what I've found out about it so far. I'm glad I found a few others have tried this soap. I didn't have to start my own thread.

I gave Midnight Stag a try last night. This is a manly scent to me. But the mix of all the scents made it hard for me to notice individually. But it was a dark and powerful scent to be sure. Im not going to list all the scents that they say is in it but you can look them up.

The quality of this shave soap is top notch to me. It would be hard to find one that has a higher grade of slickness and the ease of making lather. I used about half an almond sized dollup and had enough plus for a 3 pass shave.

Im still learning about the qualities a shave soap can have but I sure can tell now when one is nowhere close to what it should be. Chiseled Face will be in my rotation as soon as i figure out what one i enjoy most. These are not light fragrances. So far.

I just wanted to make this clear. The Midnight Stag I had in a sample back in May was not the Silk Tallow. Still, the quality was so high it's hard to think something could be better.
Now, I will say that I finally did try the silk tallow midnight stag. I don't know if it's better but it's far from worse. When you get to this level of slickness without feeling greasy or buttery and the cushion being so great, plus the fact that the slickness is still there after a rinse in case you need to touch up a spot or three. Then the way it makes your skin feel after the shave. Chiseled Face is at the top of my list!

I've been so good this year, didn't buy a single tub of new soap, until yesterday!
